Boks edge spirited Argentina
from Rugby Hosted by SABC Sport
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer praised his team show of character in their come-from-behind 33-31 victory against Argentina in their Castle Lager Rugby Championship encounter in Salta yesterday. Meyer says that he is happy that his team showed that they have the ability to win and that they were still in contention to win the competition. Meyer though did concede that Argentina played good rugby on the day and that a lot of work still lies ahead for his team….. Springbok captain Jean de Villiers says he is happy with the fact that his side were able to record victory over Los Pumas and that Argentina are a better side than their lowly 12th ranking in the world…… De Villiers gave credit to the replacements that were brought on for the Springboks and says it was their contribution that lifted the team to victory…… De Villiers says that the bounce of the ball did not favour his team and that Los Pumas played the conditions well on the day. De Villiers believes that his team will learn from the ugly win and also praised them for the character they showed…. De Villiers admits that it would have been ideal for his team to have started and finished the game well but said sometimes they needed to grind out victories like the one last night…… Meyer says that he is very concerned about the way in which his side have failed to gain dominance in the scrums and says that they will need to adapt to the referee and improve on this area going forward in the competition….. Meyer also said that he is unsure why his side struggle to beat Argentina in their backyard but is not surprised at the way Los Pumas played……Journalist: Vata Ngobeni
