Bolivia Military Barracks Explosion | Spokane News

A deadly explosion rocked a military barracks in Viacha, Bolivia, killing nine and injuring 84—though the death toll may rise as more bodies are recovered. The blast, which occurred around 2:30 PM Friday in an area storing pyrotechnics, could have been far worse because soldiers were out on a bike ride at the time. President Rodrigo Paz called it likely an accident due to mishandled explosives, declared national mourning, and urged against politicizing the tragedy. An investigation is underway to review safety protocols and prevent future disasters, with families still waiting for answers and victims’ identities yet to be confirmed.
