Sobriety means clarity and that includes looking at your trauma directly and seeing it clearly. Cancel culture is toxic, it doesn’t allow for forgiveness or growth. Previously Dan didn’t want to take responsibility, he was more focused on being edgy and controversial. He had no reason to listen to what other people were telling him. But he now sees he was wrong. Dan accepts that he had an inflated ego, through drinking and drugs and that he did do and say things that were wrong in the past. He didn’t listen enough or take responsibility. Being sober has given Dan freedom; to accept he is wrong, apologise sincerely and achieve his potential.
