The March 13, 1938 international broadcast had two direct ties to the Pacific Northwest: CBS' Edward R. Murrow, who helped organize it and who reported from Vienna; and U.S. Senator Lewis B. Schwellenbach of the Evergreen State, who appeared as a guest.
