She survived the attack, but her survival does not diminish the seriousness of the violence or the lasting harm she endured.In our original episode, we focused heavily on Lisa Neve’s trauma, systemic failures, and Canada’s Dangerous Offender designation. In doing so, we did not clearly distinguish what happened or sufficiently centre the person who was harmed.This episode sets the record straight.We revisit the 1991 assault, Rhodora Nicholas’s place in the case, and why that violence became central to Neve’s eventual Dangerous Offender designation. We also examine how two truths can exist at once: systems can fail someone profoundly, and that person can still be responsible for causing devastating harm.Understanding how someone became capable of violence is not the same as explaining that violence away.Edited by Kyle McDonnell
