Feliks Banel's guest on this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY is Leonard Garfield, executive director of Seattle’s Museum of History & Industry or “MOHAI.” It was recently announced that Garfield will be presented with the 2025 Pacific Northwest History Award by the Pacific Northwest Historian’s Guild. The award recognizes individuals or organizations for significant contributions to the writing, preserving and promoting of Pacific Northwest history. The award will be presented on Friday, October 10, 2025 as part of the guild’s annual meeting and reception at the Mountaineers Center at Magnuson Park. The guild’s annual conference follows the next day at the Central Branch of the Seattle Public Library downtown. With more than 26 years in charge of MOHAI, Leonard Garfield is now one of the longest-serving directors currently running a Pacific Northwest cultural institution. During his tenure and under his leadership, MOHAI grew from a sleepy yet beloved local treasure tucked away in a park near the UW campus, to a major cultural entity in South Lake Union, a bustling tech neighborhood on the edge of downtown.
