Michael, thank you for taking the time, and there's a little bit of a day show of view.
When I watch those committees in Washington, I'm thinking, not exactly the same dynamic, I mean, it's a bigger stage, but it's the same result as we get in August. I'm not a reporter. Yeah, it is very, very similar, Roy. You're quite right.
I mean, obviously, the impeachment of the US President versus, in the case of Justin Trudeau, who was being invested in Parliament, with things like NSC, Lobbler, and others, it's not going to obviously have the same effect, and it wouldn't even have the same endgame, so to speak, but there are some surprising similarities to it, and I guess you can start with the simplest one, is the party that is in control of a particular legislature is the one that sort of controls the day-to-day affairs of it. In the first words, Donald Trump is facing an impeachment inquiry in hearings because the Democrats control the House of Representatives in the US. Much the same way that when Trudeau was being investigated in Parliament, yes, the Liberals obviously had a majority at that time, and they're now down to a minority status, but the opposition parties were able to obviously have some amount of influence, and as well, the other thing that was also influencing it was the general populace, who were frustrated by what they saw, were furious by the fact that, you know, Jody Wilson, Ray Bolson, others have been caught in this really very big tangled web, and it obviously changed the whole narrative, whereas if Trudeau had been able to control it, maybe it would have gone off in one direction, and it would have been a very big deal. It would have gone off in one direction, but because everything was coming against him and he lost control of the narrative, this allowed the opposition parties and the people to sort of control it.
With the impeachment hearings in the US, which is a big difference, Roy, obviously you have two different levels of Congress. You have the House of Representatives, which as I said before is controlled by the Democrats, and the Senate which is controlled by the Republicans. We all know how this is going to end up. The Democrats are going to most likely impeach him in the House of Representatives, but the Senate which is controlled by the Republicans and really don't want to get into this mess to begin with, no matter what their personal feelings on US President Donald Trump are, are obviously going to acquit him.
And it will almost literally go along party lines, much the same way that had Justin Trudeau or a different Prime Minister had to say something like NSC, who knows, maybe his political career would have been up in the air, because Trudeau had a majority government at that time. He faced a lot of heat. He got damaged in the polls for a while, but he survived. Much like in many ways, Trump is going to survive, albeit both roads of the two men are facing, or are basically on right now.
We're very different and diametrically opposed to one another. Michael, clearly the Democrats want to inflict damage on Donald Trump with the electorate. That's their goal. This is what they're after.
They can get them out. They'd be much happier with that, but if they can't, and they can't, because the Senate is not going to vote to impeach Donald Trump and remove him from office. That's not going to happen. Unless something really, really, un-imagined at this point might suddenly appear on the horizon.
So do you think that they, do these types of hearings go back to Clinton, for example? Not next time because he left office. That impeachment situation really, I mean, essentially cost him the office. But his own actions cost him the office.
Do they have enough ammunition? Do they have enough firepower? Is there enough of a reservoir of a reservoir? Of information and influence, that the Democrats might be able to certainly, to really hurt Donald Trump, come next November in his reelection bid.
It's sort of a yes and no at this stage. You have to know that any bad news that trails a political leader, obviously does not work to his or their benefit. We know that. So naturally for Donald Trump, he would like the whole thing to just fizzle out very quickly.
That's what Republicans, certainly Republicans in the House of Representatives are trying to do. When the Democrats bring certain people to the floor, whether they were involved with Ukraine or the Obama State Department or whatnot, when they've been on the stand, they've either tried to, change the narrative, disrupt the proceedings, question the witnesses, or after everything is said and done, come out and suggest that nothing new has really been discussed here. Like, nothing surprising. There's no smoking gun.
There's no huge bomb that's been set off. And that's basically how they're going to be able to counter it. But sure, when Donald Trump likes this to be gone, of course, he'd love to wave his hands and be rid of it. There's no question of that.
And the longer it sits around, the worse it is for him, A, if anything comes about. You know, whether there's a different storyline that's going to sort of magically appear, which I think it's fair to say you don't believe and I don't believe it's going to happen. But who knows? I mean, time will tell.
But if things continue as they're going right now, Donald Trump will basically just have to ensure that the Republicans stand with them and defend them, make sure that the road is clear as much as they possibly can, and that any sort of hurdles are pushed aside or sloughed off. And that will allow him to move forward. And if the Republicans are doing criticizes, it's just a ridiculous action that we know where it's going to end up. We know what's going to happen.
The Democrats are politically motivated. And if all of these are the show trial, it's only just going to frustrate Americans more and more. And maybe that hopefully works with Trump's benefit. Michael, thank you so much for the time.
This is actually fascinating stuff to watch. Sometimes. Thank you, Michael. Always great to talk to you.
