Book 1: Revelation at Tikal – Ch 14: Poodles, Pages, and a Lost Boy in Tikal: episode 2
from Revelation at Tikal | Literary Adventure Fiction Podcast · host Cutty Braughn
Cutty's day at the Tikal airstrip starts with flirtation and boredom and turns, very quickly, into an animal rescue and a reckoning. While Colleen heads back toward the Jaguar Inn, a charter plane vomits out tourists in double-knit leisure suits and one woman in a red dress with a toy poodle in a matching sweater. When a huge eagle stoops out of the hard blue sky and locks onto "Sweetie Pie" as its next jungle snack, Cutty does the only thing he can think of: he throws his notebook—his entire rough draft—into the dive path and ends up cradling eight pounds of shaking fluff instead of a corpse. But a few torn pages lead him somewhere darker. Following scraps of his own handwriting along the tree line, he discovers an isolated bohío near the runway and, inside, a shape that first looks like abandoned gear and then breathes. Timothy—rail‑thin, dehydrated, and burned out from the commune's drugs, machete games, and plans for Floey—has crawled into a corner to disappear. Cutty hauls him back to eggs and beans at Comedor Florecita, helps him send a telegram home, and parks him in the shade of the Aviateca office, promising not to vanish. It's the first unambiguous rescue he's pulled off on this trip, but as the runway shimmers and Floey and Paula occupy two different horizons, he knows one good deed doesn't clear the ledger. This road story is still tangled up with cults, coups, and the damage he keeps doing to the people who trust him.
