Book 1: Revelation at Tikal – Ch 17: Hot Bearings and Messages

In Chapter 17 of Revelation at Tikal, Cutty finally receives the replacement bearing that can get his motorcycle back on the road. The part arrives by cargo plane at the Tikal airstrip, carried in by a Scottish pilot whose casual story suddenly changes everything. Over beers at the Jaguar Inn, the pilot reveals that he met Floey, traveling as Florencia de la Carmelites, and flew her from Tikal toward Chichicastenango. There, she may be painting murals at the Church of Santo Tomás under the protection of Father Felipe. Cutty tries to call, but the telephone lines are dead, so he sends a telegram instead: he is on his way and expects to reach her in less than forty-eight hours. With Paula and Alexis helping, Cutty repairs the BMW by dust, grease, luck, and the "Braughn method." The wheel goes back on, the bike fires up, and the search leaves Tikal behind. Chichicastenango is now the next destination, and Floey is no longer only a rumor.
