Join us in discussing this month’s book club pick Lone Women by Victor LaValle. After burning down her childhood home with her parents’ dead bodies inside, Adelaide flees California. Her sights are set on Montana, a place where she can homestead and become just like the women she read about in the railroad booklets. But she brings along a trunk that is so heavy, the horses can barely carry it. The trunk doesn’t seem to be filled with the items she’ll need to survive the harsh Montana winter, but something else. Something from her past. Something that darkens her future. Soon she realizes that she can’t out run her parents’ mistakes.
