Book of Alma Chapter One, Book of Mormon 1830 First Edition

from Green Eyes Yolanda · host Yolanda Tranquille Geer

After King Mosiah died, the reign of the Judges began. Alma the younger being the chief judge. The people of Nephi were judged according to their crimes if they committed any. In the 1st year of the judges, a man began teaching his own doctrine as if it were of God, saying that the priests should be supported by the people and to be popular. He also said everyone would be saved at the last day. This man whose name was Nehor, contended with Gideon and killed Gideon and was brought before Alma to be judged. He was judged and according to the law, put to death upon the hill Manti. This man had a following of people who sought for riches and power and they wanted a vote to see who would lead the people. They wanted a man amongst them called Amlicite to be their king. The vote went in favour of the people of the Church of God, but those wanting Amlicite divided and made him their king and they became the persecutors of the Church of God. This chapter relates several battles occurring between this group of people and of the Lamanites. The Amlicites began marking their forehead with a red mark the same as the Lamanites, but they did not shave their heads like the Lamanites. The bodies of the Lamanites killed were pushed into the river Sidon and the bodies of the Nephites were buried. There was q wilderness called Hermounts where wild beasts and vultures lived and those who fled from the Lamanites there were eaten by the wild beasts.
