Epistles are exchanged between Moroni and king Ammaron concerning their prisoners. Ammaron refuses the terms of exchange and so Moroni finds another way to release the Nephite prisoners, men, women and children, from the place they were being held. Wine was used to get the guards drunk and the prisoners were given weapons. The soldiers guarding the prisoners became prisoners themselves and Moroni put them to labour building fortifications about the city Gid.
