Jacob the brother of Nephi writes upon the plates. He tells us that 55 years have passed since leaving Jerusalem and that he and Joseph are consecrated priests and teachers of the people. He tells us that as Nephi was reaching old age, he anointed a man to take his place as protector, to rule as king. As the people loved Nephi, each subsequent king was named after Nephi no matter the man's original name. Jacob shares with us that under the second king, the people began to become wicked and want more wives like David of old and Solomon of old, and to be lifted up in pride and want silver and gold.
