To prepare his sons, Alma will invite each to hear his counsel individually. First, he’ll talk to his oldest son, Helaman. He’ll teach him about the importance of his personal deliverance story in a beautiful, deliberate chiasmus. Next, he’ll give him instructions on deepening his own testimony by keeping the plates and preserving the stories of the past. His counsel to his second son, Shiblon, will focus on the joy that comes to our lives when we are diligent, steady, and sure.
