CarTalk with Kartik #291: Books Need BrevityIs my book idea too complex for busy readers? That's the question a CEO asked me recently. As a 2X bestselling author featured on BBC TV & Times Square and having collaborated with over 70 CEOs, here's my answer.Probably yes. But that is not a problem. It is the job. Most CEOs have powerful ideas, but they often explain them like they are presenting slide 47 of the board deck. And let’s be honest, nobody has ever whispered, “Please, give me more appendix slides.”A bestselling business book should make your expertise feel simple, sharp, and easy to repeat. Short chapters. Clear stories. One main point at a time. Your reader should think, “That makes sense,” not, “I need coffee and a legal pad.”The goal is not to dumb down your ideas. The goal is to make them travel. Remember - books need brevity. This insight comes from page 158 of my book Product Marketing Wisdom - which just completed 68 weeks on the Amazon bestseller list.
