Boston Breakthrough: Grant O'Connor

from D3 Glory Days Podcast · host D3 Glory Days

In the spring of 2023, RPI graduate Grant O’Connor crossed the finishing line of the Jersey City Marathon in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 28 seconds. It was a bittersweet breakthrough, a big personal best, but an agonizing 28 seconds outside of the Olympic Trials qualification standard. O’Connor put that disappointment firmly behind him on Marathon Monday, as he crossed the iconic Boston Marathon finish line in 2:16:17, finishing 19th overall, and 5th amongst Americans. In this episode, we take some time to dive into Grant’s latest performance and his marathon trajectory up to this point. We learn that Grant isn’t surprised to be where he is now, but the ’18 Outdoor 5k Champ thought he might be here a little sooner. What’s kept him in the game? The ability to navigate the highs and lows of a sport that is also very much a lifestyle, and the capacity to run big mileage. What does it take to be great? For Grant it’s an easy answer: Put on the running shoes every 12 hours, year after year. Thank you to Tracksmith for supporting the Podcast. We're excited to be partnering with Tracksmith!.
