Okay, so I had a program planned for today. And as I was relaxing, I watched a little bit of YouTube. And, well, I'll do that program tomorrow. But let's try something different now.
And how are you? It's Tuesday. Ah, it's cold in Florida. Both sides now.
That's a song by Joni Mitchell. It was first recorded by Judy Collins and was released in 1968. But Joni Mitchell wrote the song. You can probably hear my cat crying in the background because I'm going to let him in the studio.
Hi, everyone. I'm Michael Kroos. This, well, this is The Daily Grateful. Joni Mitchell wrote both sides now.
And it was inspired by a passage in Henderson and the Rain King, a 1959 novel by Saul Belko. Bello, I'm sorry. I have heard this song over the years many times. Many, many, many times I've heard this song over the years.
And every time I've heard it, I felt really good about it. And Joni Mitchell is old now. I don't even know how old she is. But she's old now.
And I had not seen her perform. And I'm on YouTube today. And my goodness, Joni Mitchell, both sides now, live at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022. She was sitting in a very comfortable, just gorgeous chair, surrounded by other musicians.
And she sat there and she sang with all these other musicians, playing and helping her sing. She sang both sides now in a way that I had never heard it before. Her voice is not the way it was when she was younger. It is definitely an older voice.
But it is a voice that is so full. And it's just, the sound was so, so immense as it came into my ears. And I listened to her sing the song. And I saw the other people on the stage actually crying.
And the next thing you know, I'm sitting here in the studio looking at the YouTube video and I'm crying. It was an absolutely incredible thing. And it just totally made my day. Tears and fears and feeling proud.
To say I love you right out loud. Dreams and schemes and circus crowds. I've looked at life that way. But now I'm old.
My old friends are acting strange. They shake their head and tell me that I've changed. Well, something's lost and something's gained in living every day. I've looked at life from both sides now.
From win and lose and still somehow. It's life's illusions that I recall. I really don't know life at all. I guess I'm a child of the 60s.
That's when I was in high school. That was my teen years. And I have to tell you that the music that was produced in that era was wonderful. The music that's produced today is mind-blowing.
It really is. But Joni Mitchell, when she wrote that song, I sit here today, January 30th, and I am so grateful to have listened to Joni Mitchell throughout the years. So grateful. You know, music is what brings us all together.
Music is what calms us down. Music is what gives us inspiration. And makes us happy. I am happy.
I'm going to go listen to some more Joni Mitchell music. And we'll see you tomorrow. I am happy. I am happy.
