Boundary setting: Stepping back, saying no and avoiding peer pressure for adults

from The Divine Feminist · host Ceryn Rowntree

Putting boundaries on our time and energy is one of the most important things we can do to care for and respect ourselves. But in a world that so regularly tells us we should be caregivers whose worth is judged by their productivity and by how exhausted they are at the end of a week, the whole subject can be tough. From stepping back from the constant busy-ness for long enough to discern what our needs are to bucking the trends of society and expectations of those around us enough to put those containers for ourselves in place, the work of understanding and implementing those boundaries can at times feel as draining as the possibility of continuing. In this week's episode, Ceryn shares insights gained from her experience of burning out, the lessons she's learned along the way and the ways in which boundary setting can be a vital part of not only self care and creating a life of greater balance and fulfilment; but also of reminding the rest of the world to do the same. Consider this a reminder that your time and your energy are important; that you are worthy of boundaries, and an invitation to consider how those would look for you.
