Boy contracts brain-eating amoeba in the Sea of Galilee

9-year-old Baruch Neriya from Pardes Hanna has been hospitalized in serious condition at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, suffering from brain inflammation after contracting a brain-eating amoeba. Prof. Danny Eitan, director of pediatric intensive care at Ruth Rappaport Children's Hospital at Rambam, the boy was admitted with signs of central nervous system infection. Suspicion arose that it was an amoeba infection, based on the clinical description, laboratory findings and history of exposure to the Sea of Galilee water.
