Boy Meets World: S1E4: Cory's Alternative Friends

Hey BMW Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of The World According To Cory: An Unofficial Boy Meets World Podcast. Today, I covered S1E4: Cory's Alternative Friends, which aired on October 15, 1993. In this episode Shawn and Cory get split up from doing a project together, making Shawn work with Minkus and Cory with Topanga. Cory overhears girls making fun of his hair and decides to change it. I thought this was a good episode for Cory to see that a person's outside appearance doesn't define who they are on the inside. So many kids in the episode from 90's movies, Yeah-Yeah the kid from the movie The Sandlot in 1993, Spike the kid from The Little Giants in 1994, Troy the kid from the movie Angus in 1995 and eventually 1999's American Pie as "The Sherminator". I loved Topanga in this episode she was sweet and didn't judge Cory and I loved the little confused looks who gave her, it's clear the audience loves her too, I notice Shawn's back story is still being developed because he mentions to Cory about playing football in his backyard, so I figure at this point he just lives in a house. I found it sad that even Shawn Cory's best friend laughed at him, really Shawn? He bought the stuff that messed up Cory's hair. I especially love Topanga's bravado as she pushes Cory against the locker and kisses him for the first time. I always call this the kiss to build a dream on because it's the kiss that would we always come back to and reference as this is where it all began. I also love how Cory became kind of a leader for those other kids when he took charge of that petition to help Mrs. Rosemead the librarian keep her job. In this episode Corey and Topanga, spend the night at the school while working late on an assignment. In the morning, they find out that the entire school thinks they slept together.
