Residents of Long Term Care Institutions for the Elderly often have more 80 years old, have chronic diseases and are dependent on functionality, requiring medical and personal care, carried out by the staff of the institutions. These conditions put residents of Long Term Care Institutions for the Elderly at greater risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection, death by COVID-19. Employees, who provide care at Long Term Care Institutions, may be asymptomatic about SARSCoV- 2, being important in the chain of transmission of COVID-19 to residents. Residents of Long Term Care Institutions are responsible for a large number of deaths by COVID. According to October 2020 report of all COVID deaths, on 21 countries, residents of long-term institutions accounted for an average rate of 46%. In the US in November 2020 these elderly accounted for 39% of deaths from SARS-CoV-2), Belgium 48%, Canada 80%, France 46%, Spain 63%, United Kingdom 44% .. In Brazil, the mortality rate for COVID-19 in residents of Long-Term Institutions is 19.4%, (until October 2020 total of 846 deaths) according to data from six state public ministries. Based on recommendations from governmental and scientific entities, the Special Commission COVID-19 of the Brazilian Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology recommends that residents and employees of Long Term Care Institutions for the Elderly are considered priorities for receiving the first supply of vaccines against COVID-19, as in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. For these reasons, it is essential that in the National Vaccination Operationalization Plan against COVID-19 the Priority for Vaccination of Residents and Employees is highlighted of Long Term Care Institutions for the Elderly.
