Bread or Fire? What are Your Words Multiplying?

In today’s readings, we encounter two small things with extraordinary power: five loaves that Christ multiplies to feed a multitude, and one spark that St. James warns can burn an entire forest. Our words work in the same way. They can nourish faith, hope, and healing—or spread resentment, suspicion, and division. This sermon explores how Scripture, prayer, thanksgiving, and charitable thoughts can sanctify our speech and gradually reshape our hearts. Before you speak, ask: Will this become bread—or will it become fire? Do not feed the fire. Feed upon the Word. Then place bread into someone’s soul.
