Breakfast at Tiffanys by Truman Capote

In Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, an unnamed narrator recalls his time living in a New York brownstone alongside the elusive and charismatic Holly Golightly. Supported by wealthy men and chasing a sense of belonging she calls "Tiffany's," Holly is revealed to be Lulamae Barnes, a child bride who fled a rural life in Texas for the reinvention of the city. Her chaotic social circle includes an aspiring Brazilian diplomat and various high-society hangers-on, all of whom are disrupted when she is arrested for unwittingly assisting a mafia informant. After a tragic miscarriage and the loss of her brother in the war, Holly jumps bail and flees to South America, leaving behind her nameless cat and the narrator. The story concludes years later with the narrator imagining Holly finally finding a place where she and her restless spirit truly belong.
