Breakfast Casserole It’s Everything That Makes Breakfast Delicious! Breakfast casserole. If you’re like me, when the alarm clock rings every morning, life is a race. While this daily pace helps bring home the “bacon”, it’s not a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. It’s important to jump off the track and gather back together at the table for good food and conversation in the evening. But what about feeding yourself and your family in the morning? Today I’m sharing one of my favorite morning recipes – the Breakfast Casserole. History of the Casserole The word “casserole” means one type of dish in which to cook. While the word was first used around 1583 by the French, it dates back to prehistoric times when food was slow cooked over a fire in clay vessels. Around 1706, the casserole made its way into the English language, and during the Great Depression cooking stews and casseroles became a way of life. It was economical and a delicious way to make a little, go a long way. In the late 50s casseroles gained popularity when new types of lightweight metal and glass cookware came on the market. Make This Breakfast Casserole Your Go-To As a single mom who raised two girls, this breakfast casserole became my favorite go-to. It’s super simple and delicious. In fact, I renamed it the “Ariel and Hannah” casserole because my girls loved it so much! It’s eggs, sausage, milk, and lots of cheese, with a bit of a crunch as croutons are added to the top of the casserole right before baking. It’s everything that makes breakfast delicious! What’s fun is that you can easily modify this recipe to make it your own add bell peppers, jalapenos, poblanos, or throw in some herbs. It’s large so it will serve a crowd for brunch, or enjoy leftovers the day after.
