Breaking Barriers: A Journey with Gregory Shepard – Unleashing Success Despite Autism and Dyslexia

from Label Free: ”To live your best life, live label free.” · host Deanna Rădulescu

In this episode of the Label Free Podcast, host Deanna Radulescu interviews Gregory Shepard, the CEO and founder of Startup Science. Gregory is a visionary leader, TEDx speaker, and connector, but what sets him apart is his level one autism, level five dyslexia, savant abilities, and synesthesia.  Gregory shares his personal story of growing up with autism and dyslexia, facing challenges and discrimination, and how he overcame them. He talks about his parents, who left the church to foster and adopt children of different nationalities, including Gregory. Despite being labeled as autistic, Gregory's mother didn't want him to be labeled, so he was in special education throughout his life. Despite his challenges, Gregory has achieved remarkable success. He has built and sold 12 companies, won four private equity awards, sold two companies to eBay, and even met Obama through his involvement in politics. He also started a school for entrepreneurship to help people with similar challenges and give them equal opportunities. Gregory discusses the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people and processes, acknowledging weaknesses, and leveraging strengths. He emphasizes the need to constantly sharpen skills like focus, drive, enthusiasm, discipline, and optimism. Gregory also shares how he uses special software and hires people to support him in areas where he is weak. Deanna and Gregory delve into the concept of neurodiversity and how it can be seen as a gift rather than a label. Gregory explains how his unique abilities, such as seeing patterns and understanding complex systems, have helped him in his business ventures. He also highlights the importance of understanding the root causes of inequality and working towards equal opportunities for all. Gregory invites listeners to check out his website, gregoryshepard.com, where they can access his platform for startups called Startup Science. He offers free access to the platform, which provides micro-learning classes and connects entrepreneurs with investors and mentors.  Today's episode is brought to you by securevpn.io.
