BREAKING: North Carolina Court Says 65k Ballots Can Be Tossed Out | Justice Allison Riggs
from Defending Democracy with Marc Elias · host Democracy Docket
A three-judge panel in the North Carolina appeals court ruled Friday to disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters in the state’s Supreme Court election unless they can fix their ballots in 15 days. The decision comes from Republican candidate Jefferson Griffin’s election contest. Incumbent Democratic Justice Allison Riggs, whose victory Griffin challenged, joins Marc Elias to discuss what it means. Griffin claims about 60k ballots came from voters whose registrations are incomplete because they are missing driver's license or social security numbers. He claims another 5k ballots came from military and overseas voters who did not provide photo ID with their mail-in ballots. The North Carolina State Board of Elections and a lower state court rejected these arguments.
