Breaking Point Shredding Event
from My Podcast Site · host Christine Till
Co-founders, Susan Borax and Heather Knittel of Good Riddance Professional Organizing Solutions are delighted to be among the sponsors of the innovative Breaking Point Shredding Event. Their organizing service, founded in 2004, specializes in helping people manage the struggle with clutter that they have difficulty in handling by themselves. Their business focuses on the needs of seniors who are either making a housing transition requiring relocation support or opting to re-organize their residences for aging in place. They call this program "Practically Daughters". While most seniors want to reamin independent in their homes, there comes a time when this may no longer be possible. Older adults making the move to a senior housing community or care facility face a bewildering maze of options ranging from where to live to what to take and what to leave behind. Moving to a smaller apartment in a retirement community almost always involves a certain degree of trauma, both for the elder who's moving and for family members who also have deep emotional attachments to their home. Aging in place also involves confronting a lifetime's worth of possessions to ensure that the home is safe and items are easy to find. Susan and Heather's unique services are specifically designed for older adults who need to downsize. These programs can assist by preparing a house for real estate market, sorting, arranging for the sale and distribution of excess belongings, unpacking, organizing the home, disposing of items and managing the move. With downsizing, the goal is to simplify one's life. The idea is not to get rid of everything, but to pare down the years of accumulated belongings to the key things that one needs or enjoys using. A good deal of what the organizers encounter can be described as paper and documents. The Breaking Point Shredding Event is a real breakthrough, delivering a critically important assistance to seniors in their community. Susan and Heather regularly present workshops on downsizing to community groups. They also perform in their hilarious musical, "Cluttermania"! That explores the baffling relationships that people have with their material things. Their new book, "Good Riddance Showing Clutter the Door, will be available in November 2010.
