An HIV positive mother in South Africa has saved the life of her child who had end-stage liver disease, after she donated a part of her own liver. This successful world- first operation was conducted by a medical team from Wits University in Johannesburg. The country's Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, has commended the doctors, arguing that although there are concerns that the child may have been exposed to HIV, the child's life has been prolonged. Jane Rabothata attended the press briefing where the medical team shared the ethical dilemma they faced in performing the operation, and filed this report:
