Breast Cancer Special: Life After Treatment Part 1 featuring Rev. Leona Madison, MDiv
from The Melanin Initiative's Podcast · host The Melanin Initiative
Welcome everyone to the Melanin Initiative! This is the third installment of a multi-part series with Rev. Leona Madison, MDiv who returns to share how her health has been since receiving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation for breast cancer. We've divided her story into different segments in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in October. We discuss each phase of her journey to include:-Diagnosis-Treatment-Life After Treatment (side effects), Part 1 & 2-Faith“In healthcare, there is often too much information and not enough time. Here at The Melanin Initiative, we avoid TMI by breaking things down into language you can understand, we create a safe space to ask your questions, and share our nursing perspective without taking too much of your time."The data shows that when it comes to Black and Brown communities, we wait too late to be diagnosed and once we are diagnosed the disease is so advanced that the options for treatment are limited and the risk of death and disability is that much higher. Knowledge is power and so is having a support system and understanding the importance of advocacy. Throughout October we've addressed each of these themes. We’ll be releasing a new episode every Tuesday in October for TMI Tuesdays at 10am. You can find us on all your favorite podcast apps and YouTube.Connect with Rev.
