from the POD - mindhamok podcast series · host mindhamok
In this episode, two of our mindhamok ambassadors, Leah Gould and Simran Bajwa speak with Washington DC based breathwork practitioner Sandy Wiggins about the concept, practice and benefits of breathwork. Breathing; it's the first thing we do when we enter this world, and the last thing we do as we depart. The majority of the time, we are breathing subconsciously, much like the beating of our heart or the growth of our cells, breathing however, can also be controlled consciously, we can arrest conscious control of our breathing by taking deeper or shallower breaths, breathing faster, slower and even holding our breath. In doing so, we are able to witness profound physiological effects that can assist us in times of stress and difficulty. Sandy Wiggins introduces us to the history and beginnings of the practice as well as some techniques that can help students and everybody during times of increased stress or as a daily routine in your own wellness plan. You will also have two opportunities to try a few quick techniques during the podcast. Before embarking on breathwork practices, speak with a licenced practitioner to run through a 'pre-flight' medical and wellbeing check. Sandy Wiggins can be contacted directly at [email protected].
