Milwaukee Brewers president Rick Schlesinger joined WIZM's La Crosse Talk PM to discuss ideas for maximizing the year-round use of an upgraded American Family Field, the Sausage Races coming to in La Crosse, remembering Bob Uecker, and how the team is handling rising player salaries. Began the show with Schlesinger sharing insights into how the team plans to utilize an upgraded stadium. He explains that it needed to be winterize, which was part of the $500 million taxpayer-funded upgrades passed by the state Legislature last year. Those plans of utilizing the stadium outside the MLB season include — not just concerts — but the potential for hosting state tournaments, hockey games, and even video game competitions on the stadium’s massive outfield screens. One idea even had players competing in MLB The Show on the big screen during games. We also touched on the Sausage Races coming to La Crosse, which were recently canceled due to a snowstorm in Milwaukee. Following the recent blockbuster NBA trade of Luka Dončić, we asked Schlesinger about trades the Brewers have made, some of which haven’t always been popular—such as letting Willy Adames leave for free agency or trading Devin Williams to the Yankees. This led to a conversation about the challenges the Brewers face in competing with teams signing players to $700 million contracts, and whether the MLB might eventually need a salary cap.
