Her cousin Mordecai, who had raised her, once saved the king’s life, but later angered the king’s advisor Haman by refusing to bow to him. Haman became so furious that he plotted to destroy all the Jews in the kingdom.Haman convinced the king to sign a law allowing all Jews to be killed. Mordecai urged Esther to risk her life by going to the king and asking for mercy. Esther and the Jews fasted and prayed, and Esther bravely approached the king. He welcomed her and asked what she wanted.At two banquets, Esther revealed Haman’s evil plan and asked the king to spare her people. Furious, the king had Haman executed and made Mordecai his new advisor. A new law allowed the Jews to defend themselves. God saved His people, and they celebrated with days of feasting and joy.
