6-0! A little stufider on excitement about the week. I appreciate Kirk Herbsley, shout out to the column. I'm now a game day, I said that.
That's a tough thing. You can find it, but I do appreciate him mentioning it. He's collecting and reading all of that information. But yeah, that was in reaction to the fact that seemingly every week I talk myself by the time I write the column on Wednesday night.
By the time I get to Saturday morning, for some reason I no longer want to pick the games that I liked earlier in the week. And by the time I get to Friday, I like that this game might be better. So I'm doing a terrible job of selecting the games to put on the board. If you look at that, but no one wants to hear it.
But yeah, it's borderline com for it now. It's what we have Friday in the column, the podcast and before anything else before anything else. Correct. And that's what we'll go off.
Let's go with our picks now. And then I do want to talk a little rankings scenarios. I think it's actually going to come up in some of these picks because I am. I've been waiting all week to talk to you about it since the rankings came out because I have some feelings that I just need to get out there.
Let's just go to the column though. I think we both have three picks this week. Your first pick. Go ahead.
It was one of the teams that you just mentioned a little bit ago about concert noted in last week and have in Florida State with an easy win. Normally this would be a spot route all into back Clemson. You can see what I did there. They're all in the back.
I just want to make sure it wasn't too early in the morning. I went over your head to get some of community in the middle of these days, but I don't know how. You get a quarterback has any confidence right now. I mean, it's a very uncluptic.
He throws a pick. DJ said that issues now. Louisville surprised me to see it with how well the defense is played. They won four or oh, it might be a situation where Clemson wins, but I don't think it's going to be easy at all.
It's a very, very tricky spot. I think for Clemson coming off of that weekend and just look at the way. I think the gap is closed dramatically in the ACC. You go back to last five ACC home games.
This is the fourth time Clemson has been a single digit favor now and prior to this run, there were double digit favorite 22 straight ACC home game. So clearly the gap is closed. It's not the Clemson team of 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 19, this is not that. It's not that moveable of good chance, but I would, I would suggest take a little bit of a sec.
Okay, I like it. Not no idea what to see with that Clemson team. I'm with you there. I'm going to go with army and Troy reading into this, listening to different things about this coach, some of all and his staff have done a great job at Troy and I heard him talking this week.
I'm mentioning about his staff. He assembled and he has two guys that coached at army the last couple years, defensive line coach Eric McDaniel and his defense coordinator. She would was a code offensive coordinator at army the last two years and then you look farther into the resume of wood. He played at Wafford who's a team that was renowned for their options football, you know, worked there for seven years played there for four years.
So I think Troy is going to be well prepared for this army offense. I get it. It's not the past teams that Monk has had. I don't care.
It's still army football and on top of that, army's getting their ball back together. I think it's going to be a low scoring game that clock's going to be running. I'm going to go under the number of surprise me at how high it is. I thought it was going to be low 40s.
It's 46. So I'm going to go under army and Troy. I like that. I like that.
I mean, you're not going to get a ton of possessions. This is a Troy team that is really a lot of their offenses generated from turnovers and points out turnovers. I don't think you're going to get that from me. I mentioned the other way.
With you. When you put this in your trip, I like this pick. So I'm on board with you there. I'm looking at a couple of other short favorites.
And yeah, look, we hit on me. I just rested it. Yeah, we hit on Kansas last week and how we were really were rooting for him to get to six wins. They deserve to go to a bowl and that we like them last week.
It was the most obvious potential game to get a win and they got it. And you saw the celebration afterwards. It was like winning the Super Bowl carry down the goal post and I just think it's going to be hard to. They achieved their goal of getting to a bowl.
Now you're going to love it. Tech is already blown out West Virginia. They beaten Texas there. They've had a couple of tough losses on the road the last couple of weeks as well.
It feels like a spot to really fade Kansas as Texas Tech needs to wins to get a ball. But you would think that one of them would be this week and the potential. Another one would be either inside of state or Oklahoma. But this feels like a must wing type of game if the right graders are to get to a bowl.
But I think I think that's the right side here three and a half. I'm not worried about laying that extra up there. I think this game probably decided by a little bit of that. Two awesome stories.
And when people will talk about this later on, we'll talk about the big 12 and the balance and the strength. And the balance and the strength of that conference. These two teams are the reason I think so highly of this conference this year. No one after not pushovers.
So I'm fired up to see what happens there. I was with you on Kansas last week and the feelings going into that. So that'll be good one to see with the people down in Lubbock. Interesting for sure.
I'm going to go to a Friday night game. It's late. We're probably not going to see the end of it. No one how late these things have been getting over, which is going to be tough because I always like to go to bed knowing whether I got to win or lose or even though it's usually a loser on the week night games.
It just works out. But I can't I can't stop and not look at this game and not take my man J. I think Fresno State's got it back. I know it was Hawaii, but the offense looked really back to normal after sluggish week against San Diego State the week before and we know that before that he was out multiple weeks with that leg injury.
But we're running out of chances to bet on my man and I love the kid. I've talked about how much I think of him. You've watched him. You think the world of him.
I'm dying to see what happens to him in the draft and where situation possibly he could fall into that. I don't I'll never doubt the kid, but it's Fresno State and the lane nine and a half last night when I released the column or I submitted my column at around 230 Eastern thanks to LeBron LeBron Lee. I didn't. Yeah, the redo the ace last night in the rear show.
That was fun. So yeah, it's good times, but Fresno State lane nine and a half at UNLV. I just feel like these two teams are going opposite directions. I think Fresno State is a superior team.
So hopefully they don't get distracted by the likes of the big city and strip it all that and play out the big out, but I'll take Fresno State minus nine and a half against UNLV. I got to keep staying way off the strip. Don't even don't even don't even be tempted by seeing those lights and having some stay way out and by Fort Mahal and Henderson or somewhere. Yeah, we're keeping far away.
Way out. And then the other one that I have in the column and threw in there for the triple option of which this week was a week for us to lay in three and a half against North Carolina. Again, similar to I guess Texas Tech in a bit. Wake is just vomited on themselves the last couple of 11 turnovers.
Hartman's been terrible. Road losses. And now you come home against the 117th ranked team in the country in terms of defense and defensive efficiency. They should find the either that the going much easier against that defense.
I still like Carolina moving forward to get to the ACC Championship game. So like the David Chance, the B Clemson in the ACC Championship game, I've got receipts to prove my point. I believe in UNC may certainly in the mix to be invited to New York and to put that win. I just don't like the spot here for UNC with way coming home off of a couple of brutal flooky turnover rilled performances.
I think this is one of those back and forth ridiculously high scoring type games. Ultimately, we want to point out that. Yeah, I was thinking about this game just looking at the context of it all and early this year when we didn't know much about Clemson. I was impressed because they got the offense against Wake and out you know, outscored him in this game.
And we still are going to measure everybody in this conference to Clemson. So if North Carolina, I still think they're under ranked, they should be ranked higher with that record. Proves to me that you're worthy of a higher ranking and go and win this game. Clemson did it.
Now you're superior offensively. You know, you talked about Wake struggles. You got right where you want them. Big game for Carolina to prove me something here.
How important is a win for Sam for Drake May here for his Heisman campaign, you think? Can he will will a 49 42 loss be okay in the eyes of the voters? Do you think? I think it's still I think a win is huge for him here.
Hough. I think he's got to win and they got to win the AC. Now, if they lose 49 42, he balls out and then they wind up winning the AC, see over Clemson, he's great. The problem is going to be you got to see just for outsell.
And I don't know what would happen if Michigan wins, how the voters would view quorum if Michigan's undefeated. Yeah. I think he's got a little of that going against him. I do think that I do think he has to win whether that's right or wrong.
I do knowing that quarterback especially get the record attached to him. But those are the two guys you mentioned. It's funny that you mentioned quorum. Those are the last on a radio show this week outside the box.
What do you think? That's who I thought Drake May and Blake quorum. Those are the two guys that come to mind when you're thinking about a long shot that still have some games to be played. I think that are going to be of vast importance.
My last pick of the column is Baylor. They're laying two and a half at home. I talked about him last week. I love the situation for them against Oklahoma.
You know, I thought they were better team on both sides. That offense continues to score grinds is a guy that I would be shocked if he's not a head coach next year. And everybody's going to point to the host. You next week when I look at them, sending in the right time of the season in Kansas state, maybe they've hit their peak.
And I think a random will be, you know, have that defense, you know, coach up fired up and ready to go. No one wants that steak down the road. You know, they already have the three losses and get the win against Oklahoma on the road. So they come back home.
I expect a good effort out of Baylor. That offense has been really good average in 39 and a half in the last four games against conference opponents. So I'm going to stick with Baylor. They got me there last week.
So I recently biased what everyone to call it. I just like what they have. Like what they bring in the table. They got good balance.
I think the defense is going to get better. And I trust them around it. I mean, if that's when this week, yeah, they truly is the cliche next game. One week at a time, I'd be like for for for me.

All right, let's talk some scenarios because this is what I talked about watching you on the show with the guys after the rankings come out. And it's funny to me how I feel like I'm on an island because everybody is peddling an LSU to the S&C title game. And I just can't get there yet. I think they have two enormously weird games left on the schedule that they have to win.
And the first one, this line reeks the most of any line I think this season. And now we even have a sponsor for it. The line that smells the worst this week is our mayhem moment. And this mayhem moment is brought to you by all state.

I know Arkansas is going to be in winners tonight. But you, you talk about it. I thought so that's why I didn't put in the column, but I could easily see myself taking Arkansas plus the ring and a half. So here's what I'm saying with LSU.
I mean, good Lord. There's not going to be a bad word set about them in that since since Saturday night happened. And I just feel like this game has gotten them in years past when they have lost to Bama and overtime games and then Arkansas. They've had to go to Arkansas and I feel like Arkansas always gets up.
We got the boot, right? This is the boot, boot trophy. Yes. Right.
So is KJ healthy? I don't think he's been healthy. But I just there's no way I could bet LSU here because I still think these two games they have Arkansas and A&M both on the road. And I feel I just I'm not there yet.
I just feel like there's so much youth on LSU's team. They could be reading those press clip is this week getting all the text and in love on social media from everybody. And then you come into a hungry crowd. You know the Arkansas crowd is going to be fired up for LSU coming into town.
This is why this line reeks. It should be else. You've given more on. I'm not I'm not have the model.
I don't know what the model says. My line would be. So I would think it would be more than this. But the only way I could go here is Arkansas on this side of the game.
Yeah, I want no part of this game. I want no part of the Texas, you game. I guess they built stand out one way one way obvious traffic situations where people are going to see all the other requests after last week. There's no way they'll be able to come back off the PC user ranked undefeated underdogs before I got to take them.
So any games like this, I want no part of it totally stay away. Maybe Arkansas just is what they need. Maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe maybe the entries are a little bit of a crunching and kind of try to take some pressure and some of the spotlight. Trying to cover up some of the deficiencies that they actually have.
I don't know. It feels too obvious, but I will say this. I mean, the LSU game, LSU Arkansas and Ole Miss, Alabama are connected. Like, I don't know how you could play Ole Miss, Alabama before knowing the result of LSU Ole Miss because LSU wins.
The SEC West is over. Like Alabama is not no shot. And how do they respond to that knowing that they're not really playing for anything by Alabama, Seattle, and Seattle, and the SEC title and national title. And knowing that there's nothing to play for, like, how do they react?
Is prices shoulder healthy? I'm not saying they're going to shut it down this week, but at the same time, it's got to be a little bit of feeling a disappointment if they feel knowing that LSU was done out there, taking care of business. And by all intents and means, their national title hopes and their SEC titles are efficient. I mean, if they're not already done, mathematically, I know there's whatever percent chance that LSU loses out and they went out and they have a chance.
But the realization that it happens, we'll see. So I think playing certainly the Alabama game before knowing the LSU game is tricky. And I can't play the LSU game right now. There's just books too obvious.
I'm just going to let that one go. The biggest advantage that we have is people who like to bet on games is we don't need to bet everyone. They have to put a number on everyone, but we don't need to bet everyone. So I'm going to exercise my right to pass on this.
All right, you mentioned Alabama Ole Miss, and I really want to take Bama. But when I look at it, being on the road, double digits, this is a different team from the Bama pass teams. And the other thing is Bama's defense on the road to conference play. Every team, this is going to be their fourth game.
LSU ran for 185 yards average, over five yards a carry. Tennessee ran for 182 yards. Arkansas ran for 187 yards. I just, I think Bama's defense matches up better against Ole Miss.
And when I look at Ole Miss, what's their best win? Troy Kentucky at home, that wasn't convincing. They don't have one. No, they don't have one.
What's that? And that's why I kind of set C and the Pack 12 teams behind Ole Miss because it's just not there. The resume, I mean credit to them for getting here with only one lost. I thought the schedule to start the season was as easy as could be and Lane did a great job fixing in the transfers.
I think the catch-up has been unbelievable. And that's what this matchup comes down to me. Can they slow him down? He reads freshman in every rushing category.
There it is. And I still think, you know, people talk about Bryce Young against the Ole Miss defense. I think Alabama is going to score no problem. So that's why I lean towards Alabama minus the points.
I do look at the over, but it keeps rising. I think last night I saw it was over 64 and a half now. So you touched on it though. And I'll tell you a story back in 99, we sort of had the same deal.
We lost that Washington and Washington played UCLA in the Rose Bowl that I talked about years earlier this year when those teams played. And I'll never forget the game. So we leave the hotel and it's a tie game like at half. And if Washington loses, we control our own destiny to go to the Rose Bowl with the only, you know, we played Arizona State that night, but Arizona State had an outside shot too.
So Snyder was still coaching for Arizona State and nowhere. I mean, this is 99. This is beginning his cell phones way at the beginning. Not one time during the game was the score mentioned of UCLA and Washington.
And then sure enough, we go up 20 in the forward quarter and, you know, a couple of our alarms are coming down to the sideline. And they're like UCLA beat Washington. And I'm just, you talk about a good feeling knowing that we had an archival in Cal to beat. And then we were going to the Rose Bowl.
It was, I'll never forget those moments. You know, just just looking at guys and, you know, faces in the eyes of knowing how down we were a week ago at that point. And then, you know, looking at each other, like we got it back. We got a chance at this thing.
So Alabama, that could be that could be a lift that they get. And you know Ole Miss and Lane, if LSU wins that game, he's going to be pumping that score in the scoreboard. And every facet, he might even do a score himself on the halftime interview if he can, knowing he wants Alabama. But I look at the instances of this game and I can't help but think I'm sure you guys do it on game today.
He was a double digit dog in 2009 at Tennessee. That's the Mount Cody game. He's right there. They lose by three.
2020, they were a 23 and a half point dog against that Mac Jones team. And, and Ole Miss ran for 268 yards. They end up losing 63, 48, but they cover that number. Can he get it done?
We shall see. I do have Lane Kevin, one and 11 on the field as a double digit underdog. Oh, and three at Ole Miss and Ole Miss is one and seven at home versus Alabama under Nick Saban. So there's plenty to play for here for Ole Miss.
I just, I'm not there with Jackson Dart and I'd still like the personnel of Alabama in watching that tape back. If they score and go up seven nothing on that first drive, I think that's a totally different game in Baton Rouge last week. But the other one, obviously prime, you'll be there for TCU at 18, Texas. Our guy, Jay Mac and I had a nugget.

I still think in my office pools I'm gonna take TCU plus the point because I do think it's a field goal game and when you look at the makeup of these two teams TCU falling behind every game come back and went Texas gets a big lead and gives it up So something's got to give when you look at those two teams in those circumstances Yeah, yeah, something great back when I was talking about as well I was just talking with him about how I just can't be how can you trust Texas laying this big of a number knowing how many big leads that they blown and how do you trust TCU's defense and certainly if they Get on the road and then fall behind can they come back? Yeah, he actually he actually's got one to Bob suggesting playing where he may play just Texas first half And I think that makes a lot of sense based on that From these from these two teams this year, but yeah, I can't play the game. It's just it's just too I got like I said, it's too obvious that most casual people will be on t-segg if I play it I had to play it I lay the points with Texas just because I have a TCU big 12 ticket and just to be contrary and I would go that way That's not really helping anybody out, but I have something for your Stanford up your Stanford education if you'd like it, okay Did you know that since you started 2019? So long as active streak. That's that's too late talking But I'm with you.
I think they're more sound the defense has been good There you go. There you go There are 11th and FBS points per game given up 16.9 and they only have about 370 yards per game at 16th and FBS also Perhaps been good only one picks since the southern miss loss And he's got a better QBR than you know big names of Uyungal LA will let us even O'Connell So I I think Tulane's the only side here. I'm fired up to see them I just I look at what they built up to all year Yeah, they'll be all right. There's no party in from last week in Baton Rouge.

Yeah, let's let's just talk to rankings quick because I I feel like we're on different sides of just the persona of Tennessee right now in the idea them We talked yesterday on daily wage or what was it minus 240?
Yes, they make the playoffs and My my side. I'll say this. I just can't lay that price when they're not in complete control their own destiny and I know you're gonna say what you want to say, but that's that's why I wouldn't lay that price and You could go into the past thing, but that's why I'm not I'm not taking that but please explain why you are No, I just think the committee has shown where they are this week really respects what they've done when Alice you and when versus Alabama I get your side. This is not a an absolute argument at all I mean both sides of the argument have a ton of merit But I did just think there's I guess ultimately the way I see the season playing out The TCU is going to lose Ohio State is going to beat Michigan Georgia will win the SEC so LSU or Alabama will pick up another loss and I think or you're gonna get a one-loss Pack 12 tramps.
I honestly think this thing is going to play out Where you get Georgia Ohio State, Tennessee, and then the pack 12 winner. That's how I think it's going to play out Wow, but I think I mean look I get it I mean it the ridiculous thing is like what happens if LSU does that's when the SEC that's that that's the million-dollar question How do you mean how do you treat a two-loss LSU champion? You treat them like you did Penn State 2016 and they're not in The One the big 10 didn't get in they should have gotten in but they didn't yeah Or already you put them in there is a two-loss You can and you have Georgia in there as well and you don't put Tennessee the team that beat LSU by Fort Touchdown's on their own field in that's rough man. Yeah, you know be so It's gonna be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out that so could you would you parlay Tennessee and Oregon making the playoffs to bounce?
I don't think I don't think you can I don't know if you can partly those results I'm not sure but I would say I would certainly earlier in the week that Oregon was plus 500 to make the playoffs Yeah, I play that because if nothing else is long as they get to the past 12 championship game Which is no given they gotta be watching in they gotta be or you stay in and they gotta be you dogs given in trouble the last few times They play but the same time this isn't the same Utah team of the past I you know they get to the time for thought again the old and plus 500 and it's probably a winning deal I think it's place back on the outside you can lock yourself like yourself off a bracket I mean obviously I think some people feel differently about Oregon off of the 40-something point loss to The Georgia know I know win the game fine Don't we buy 40 but at the same time they could have played Utah State or Portland State or Idaho and been undefeated right now And they'd probably be at least four if not like maybe three who knows But I get the zero in the last time we'd have a massive different perception when in reality without actually chose to go to Go to go to Atlanta play the national champions there and play that game people want to see these big games It can't just be a situation where it only matters if you win I think you chose to play that game and take instead of playing a guarantee game It's got a matter of something Crazy thing is like this staff and they didn't choose to play the game. It was it was Yeah, because Oregon's lost to Georgia and Tennessee's lost to Georgia are completely the same to me I watch both games. I watch them both I don't care about score as long as you watch yeah 713 is gonna play a lot different than 49 3 or whatever was but that game is that close? No, no, not not not.
No, I actually almost thought about changing its channel But when I but then when if you get to the end here and Tennessee's sitting there with one loss with wins over LSU and Bama and Oregon is sitting there with a loss to Georgia and wins over Utah UCLA USC Man, that's that's a tough argument and Oregon's gonna have the kicker coverage championship I think that's that's the huge I see if I'm Tennessee. I don't want to be compared to them I mean you do it so that's gonna be what 13 12 or 13 straight wins for him. Yeah, it would be it would be Yeah That's and when I go back and think about the Penn State Ohio State deal in was that 16 with Barkley in Kentucky You know, I was on the field for that big 10 game and I remember we had we wrote Penn State the end of that year Um, and I'm like this they're not gonna get in and they deserve it And I know it came back to a loss against Michigan It wasn't even involved in anything and of course the pit lost early in the year Which was still mind-blowing when you think about that and again, that's like they chose to play Correct, but when I look at the year I think that year they could have played Akron or Youngstown State And I just think about if those roles were flipped and it was Ohio State It was red hot two losses wins the big San Penn State was a one loss. I think that stuff matters I really do so I still think that's why I think TCU's problem is that's Texas or Oklahoma with TCU's resume this year They're two or three no doubt about it and they would have been there.

Yeah, but it's gonna be so interesting because I think There's so many different ways to rank these teams and view the rankings and that's why I kind of said a couple We still got what I did about how I kind of like I said like they kind of make it up as they go along They're not making up new things. They're just like shit. They're making up what one they're going to what criteria going to prioritize over one team or another like the Ohio State Michigan game could be a classic game and It could be a field goal game.
I'm not gonna say this because it's I think the better comparison would be Michigan So I'd say be fishing about field ball. Yeah, it's a great game I think football judgment wise. I think a lot of people would say Michigan is better than TCU or maybe Tennessee or maybe Oregon How are you going to view them not having a conference title and a horrible non-conference? Well, they bought the way out of the UCLA game to play the white white white Colorado State and Terrible teams in the non-conference like how will the committee view that as opposed against in Oregon?
Joe's the play Georgia like these are the conversations I love to have and I'd love to be a part of in that room because I'm so curious how they would play on because Resprings us up all the time. There's a football judgment part which I totally get and okay If you want to say it's best for by all means go for it For that but as we've known as we've seen it typically isn't the best for and there's certain criteria and conference titles Which really doesn't mean anything in terms of it's better But ultimately that matters to me and that's why you and I have gone back and forth all these years I've been a resume body of work most deserving and you said, you know best team and I get it But like that's why it's so what people love the argue about because what is it what what is it and you know? What I need to know what the spread right now would be in USC Notre Dame Is that is going to be everybody's talking about us UCLA and yes, I'm fired up for that one But that's the one I love Notre Dame that situation. I saw that that really got my eyes now It's down to 16 So I look at Mississippi State in that matchup It's a terrible matchup because if Georgia wants to and that's what I think about if Georgia wants to you Just run the ball down their throat But Monkin loves to throw the football man loves to throw it And I just look at what Washington and Bowers and those guys did on the offensive line last week in Tennessee You just line up and do that the start to that game is huge Maybe Mississippi State first half there that'll be an inflated number and the one team I just feel like is a bad matchup is Washington I think Oregon's gonna go up and down the field on them.

No, no, you're gonna want to get to UCLA So I don't know that's a tough one But in that circumstance, I would lean towards Arizona cuz I know I have more capability off You got you got that.
