Okay, somebody's making banana pancakes. Wait a minute, you know this song? I love this song. Okay, bring it home with Sarah and Sunil.

That is banana pancakes. Like Jack Johnson. You know Jack Johnson? Oh my gosh, I love it.

I thought I was going to introduce you to something today. No, girl, I know this music. Okay, well, now let's talk about this, because why is he making banana pancakes? He said he wants to pretend like it's a weekend?

Yeah, because they're his favorite, and I mean, who wouldn't be happy with banana pancakes? Well, I'll tell you what, this would be a good time to think about banana pancakes if you like them, because two reasons. Number one, September happens to be More Matters Month, which is fruits and vegetables. Right.

You know, we promote every year at this time people to eat more fruits, more vegetables, and he's got bananas on his pancakes. So he's eating more. We eat more, and then September is also National Breakfast Month. Oh yeah, so you can easily pair, for sure, fruits and breakfast, but we sometimes have to think a little harder about pairing those vegetables with breakfast.

You know, it's a struggle. So today we're going to talk about more matters at the breakfast table. I like this. So we're going to give you some tips for including those fruits and vegetables with your breakfast.

Okay. Because let's be honest, a lot of times we see bacon and eggs and toasting, we see stuff that doesn't have anything to do with fruit or vegetables. No, you're right. So we've got to plan this.

I think, too, if there are fruits, sometimes they're used and made unhealthy, you know? Yeah, the jelly. Yeah. It's on the toast.

Okay. Okay. Well, we're going to work on it a little bit. Let's dive in.

Okay. One of my favorite ways is to make a smoothie. Now, I don't know if you caught our Breed at Home video last week. If you didn't, you need to go back to our Facebook page and check it out.

But a smoothie is an easy way to incorporate fruits and vegetables because it's endless. You can choose your favorite. Now, I love to put strawberries and bananas and oranges and those types of things, but you can put whatever fruit you like in a smoothie. You can.

And vegetable, really, too. You know, spinach, kale, carrots. I love throwing in some vegetables with my smoothies now. Especially those sweet vegetables.

Yeah. They're good. Yeah, it's a good way to just kind of incorporate it all. And if you don't know how to do that, like I said, go back, go to our Facebook page, watch last week's video.

You may find a tasty recipe. I think you might. So smoothies is one way to definitely incorporate those. Another really easy way to incorporate vegetables into breakfast is to add an egg.

You know? Yeah. I know you love an omelet. I love an omelet.

You know, I don't add them to just scrambled eggs, which I definitely can. You totally can. Yeah, you can. What are some of your vegetables that come to mind when you think about adding them to an omelet?

Omelets with salsa. Now, this is a sneaky way to kind of get some more vegetables in because then you're going to be looking at tomatoes and onions and peppers. And it also gives it kind of a kick. Yeah, it adds some really great flavor.

Yeah. You're not just eating plain eggs or a plain omelet. So that's another way to sneak some veggies in. So, side note, we've got another video coming out, guys, this Thursday.

And you may see an omelet. Next Thursday. Oh, I'm sorry. Next Thursday.

So, yeah. Just watch our page every day. That's the best way to do it. But, yes.

Now, some people like parfaits. And we've done this before where you use yogurt and then you incorporate some fresh fruit and maybe some granola. Oh, yeah. And make it.

It's almost like a healthy sundae, except it's made out of ingredients that are nutritious. Yeah. You know, kids really get on board with this because they can kind of tailor it to what they like. They want to be hands-on with it.

And so you can do this with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, really whatever you want. Anything you want. You can put oranges, peaches. There are no rules.

You're making me real hungry. I know. I'm enjoying thinking about this. But this is something you can have for breakfast.

It looks like a guilty pleasure when you look at a parfait. Yeah. But it's nutritious. Yeah.

That's a great point. Yeah. You know, this kind of sounds crazy because what I'm going to suggest is to add vegetables to a vegetable. But just roll with me, okay?

Okay? But load up those hash browns, you know, put in some, we've already mentioned adding these vegetables too and all of it. But the same could go into your hash browns. Yeah.

A lot of people put onions with their fried potatoes that they eat in the morning. Those bell peppers would be great. Some green peppers or red, any of them. Uh-huh.

So if you like potatoes in the morning, you know, don't just put cheese on them. Add some vegetables to them. Yeah, yeah. I think that's a really, really fun and yummy.

Yes, that is a good suggestion. And if you don't feel like being this creative, maybe you're not a morning person, let the fruit be breakfast. You don't have to do anything to it. You know, a lot of fruits can be eaten whole.

You can eat a banana or an apple or an orange or something like that. Or if it's something that requires a little cutting, you know, maybe there's a melon or something like that, do a little prep work, you know, the day before. Cut it up, have it ready to go. That way, when you wake up in the morning and you're grouchy and you don't want to fool with it, you've still got some nutritious fruit that's ready to go.

I love it. You know, I've heard that fruits and vegetables can be called the original fast food. Yeah. So you just pick them up and go.

You pick it up and you're ready to go. So, you know, you don't have to get all fancy and make anything. Just let the fruit be your breakfast. I like that idea.

You know, another thing you can do, talking about planning ahead, you can make some muffins ahead of time and throw in some vegetables or fruit. You know, zucchini is a great way to get a vegetable in. Yeah. Any kind of strawberry muffin, blueberry muffin, banana muffin.

Yeah. You could prep those ahead of time. And again, like you said, in the morning, when you may not feel like fixing breakfast, you can just grab it and go. This could be like a Sunday evening type, you know, meal prep type thing to have these done.

So, yeah, I can see that happening. And, you know, a lot of people do a sandwich in the morning. They like to maybe do a toast sandwich or, you know, a biscuit sandwich or something. You know, why not add some vegetables to your sandwich?

You know, a slice of tomato, especially back when they were coming in and, you know, we had fresh ones in the garden. Some people like avocado on their sandwiches. You know, incorporate vegetables that way. I could totally go for avocado on like a bacon and cheese sandwich.

So, I mean, you know, you can get creative. And it keeps it from being so boring, you know, having things the same way all the time. That's a very good point. You kind of get stuck in a rut.

Yeah. Another very simple thing to do, you know, I think most people have been doing this their whole life. Get your bowl of cereal and cut up some fruit. Yeah, yeah.

Top it with banana. Top it with strawberry. Yes. You know, add that fresh fruit to a bowl of cereal and really wakes it up.

It does. You know, I guess when people were doing it, some cereals started making it that way so that we could be lazy. But, y'all, you can still buy the cheap cereal and put your own fruit in there. Yeah, and it takes literally no time to cut up a banana and to put it on your bowl of cereal.

Yeah, yeah. That's a good way to be able to add some fruit. You know, when I think about, you know, pancakes, because, you know, this dude is wanting banana pancakes. And they are good.

Yeah. But you can add fruit to your pancake batter or you can top your pancakes and waffles with fresh fruit. So, instead of syrup, there are times when I will slice strawberries and put them on top. You know, you can even mash them so that you have the juice and just kind of pour them over your pancakes or pour them over your waffles.

And, you know, that's just a good way to do it. You're reducing the sugar and you're also adding the nutrition of those fresh fruits. I love it. Yes.

That's a great idea. And, you know, kind of to round out our discussion today, juice is obviously an easy way to get a fruit or vegetable in. But we really just want people to make sure that you are picking 100% fruit juice because there can be a lot of sugar added already. You know, juice has a lot of sugar in it naturally, but we don't want to add anything.

So, skip the sodas in the morning, skip the juice drinks in the morning, and have a glass of 100% juice or a vegetable juice that you enjoy. Because you've got to read the label in order to make sure that it's 100% fruit juice. And then we've got to watch our serving sizes. Because, like you said, it does have natural sugar in it.

Right. So, we don't want to fill up the big, tall hug with juice. No, be like, it's fine. It's fruit juice.

Yeah, no. You're right. We do need to watch the serving there. But I think this is a great, too, breakfast meal.

Yes. You know. I think it's a great idea. So, thank you for joining us on this episode.

And in the words of Bob Marley. Now, I'm pretty sure he's incorporating some fruits, especially fruits, into his breakfast. I mean, I bet pineapple made an appearance. It made an appearance in a lot of his meals.

But he would want us to live the life that we love. And love the life you live. Bye-bye.
