all right now you've done it again you've introduced me to a new song spend the day in bed how about that you never know what you're gonna learn on bring it home with neil and sarah no sarah it's a deal whoever but that was morrissey um spend the day in bed and i will tell you how long did you spend the day in bed that was sick probably the last time wow really i can't say the same it's more common than you might say but so we spend a lot of time in bed and before we transition into what we're talking about i just want to know that april the 7th is no housework day i can get on board with this i'm good with it i didn't make it up thomas and ruth roy this couple they created this along with some other different holidays you can learn more about them and the holidays they created at wellcat.com wellcat.com maybe check that out yes but we're definitely gonna celebrate this one because we like this one so we're gonna talk about our sheets before we spend the day in bed well that's a lot of housework is watching sheets oh my goodness you know what i don't mind watching them i don't like putting them back on yes it's a big chore that is a big chore but i will say one of my favorite things is climbing in bed with some clean sheets you get the best sleep so and it's a reason why there's some stuff in our sheets i don't even know that i want to know just just a few dead skin cells there's dust mites there's germs there may even be fecal matter in some cases so there's a reason why we need to watch our sheets well i'm thinking about like babies and yes so there's a reason why it feels so good to slip into those clean sheets because we got rid of all this nasty stuff so there we go so here we go how often do we need to wash our sheets at least no longer than two weeks but like weekly is best right but no more than two weeks never more than two weeks yes weekly is best you're absolutely right there are times we need to wash it a little more often than that well yeah if you're sick i mean if you're sick i mean definitely you may have had fever yeah definitely you need to wash you know pets are considered family in a lot of households um they don't necessarily have the same stuff humans have issues so we need to wash our sheets a little more often but two weeks is max yes i agree yeah let's move on let's just move on so no we know how often how is there a better way to wash than not well well we know we're going to need detergent just like we're laundering anything else and we're going to need a pre-watch stain remover not all the time but we need to have it on hand because we don't know when we're going to need it the good thing is most of our sheets don't need pre-treating the only time we do is if there's something to stain makeup stains like the number one thing that i have on my pillows exactly so um sometimes you have to treat that i got to work i'm drinking my coffee in bed in the morning and i spill it yeah food stains you know and we don't advocate for eating in the bed but occasionally you know um food stains get on your sheets and so you'll want to treat those so just a normal cycle works best yeah yeah normal cycle does you know the heavy heavy cycles can actually cause you to actually have a lot of tangling in your sheets have you ever opened the washing machine and like it's all wadded up oh my word especially the bedded sheet because it has elastic as well and it's a mess sometimes and so we don't have to have all that the normal cycle is perfectly fine for your sheets now increase the water temperature if you want to heal more germs so and that's why people do heavy they think oh my sheets i sweated it's got all this stuff i need to put on heavy well if you're trying to kill germs increase the water temperature that's if your fabric can handle the heat you know sheets are different so read your care label and if the hot water is permitted then go for that instead of increasing the cycle heaviness because of what they're made of it may not handle the heat as well you're exactly right and again i must admit i'm not the best about this all the time but fold them right from the dryer oh sarah i know but that helps just with the wrinkling and everything keep them fresh and all that so i don't necessarily always do that or i'll have to oh hang on let me hit that dryer again because i've been in there a minute yeah or me i have to wash them again because i yeah i forgot that was in the washing machine and we got to do it again and so um we want to do better than that in the future but there are some common errors that people make when they're washing their sheets and we don't want to make these anymore you already mentioned the agitator right and so when we open the washing machine sheets are big they're bigger than our normal shirt so we want to wrap it around the agitator because we think oh that way it's going to spread out but we don't want to do that because that's going to increase pulling and it could cause your sheets to tear so i want to lay my sheets separately on different sides of the agitator so i'm not going to wrap it around i'm going to put one sheet to the left of the agitator the other sheet to the right that way it's not you know tearing and pulling and it's bouncing out it's bouncing out your load it might not get that loud you know off balance sound that makes perfect sense you know i think this is another one too don't overload your washer you know sometimes like let me just get all sheets and throw them in there every sheet in the house everybody bring your sheets yeah if we do that we're not allowing the cleaner and the water to circulate through each one so we want to be clean yeah maybe we could alternate you know not try to watch everybody's sheets at the same time maybe you know stagger the sheets in the house especially if you've got you know two or three or four beds in the house then that way you could stagger it and that way you won't overload yes um you know you talk about drying the sheets i always thought you could just dry the sheets for as long as you wanted to dry the sheets i mean i didn't think there was a problem with that but we didn't realize that bedding shrinks just like your clothing shrinks i've not considered that but it's made of cotton it's got cotton in the sheets and so over drying your sheets causes them to uh reduce in size over time so if you notice your sheets don't exactly bit as well as they did when you first got them or your pillowcases might be a little bit harder to get on um that might be the reason why so whenever our sheets get dry we want to go ahead and remove them and as far as they go on and fold them you know i didn't say i always do it so i recommend it so and this keeps them from wrinkling so much too so instead of just putting them in the dryer and let them dry for two hours we need to check on them so that as soon as they're dry we go ahead it's going to take some trial and error to figure out exactly how long it takes right well and another thing i haven't really considered this because i've done this multiple times is don't dry your sheets with towels a lot of times i'll throw a sheet sheets and make a towel or two together yeah but think about it house take a lot longer to dry so you're putting more heat on your sheets i mean your sheets in your house i mean yeah you go over there together but we don't need to do that so what can we dry with our sheets because i want to just dry sheets well i mean just any kind of similar fabric yeah you know that lightweight whatever and that may allow you to actually do two beds and sheets at the same time you know that's true i don't probably put more sheets in there so you know we all do these things but if we want our sheets to last longer and you know be more energy efficient in our home yeah these are some small things that we can consider in doing so and i mean it feels so good to have these clean fresh sheets on your bed you'll want to spend the day in bed just like morris did and i just can't think of anywhere to go from there i think we can all get behind no housework day on wednesday april 7th so yes whatever you got plans to clean on that day don't do it on the six do it on the six wash your sheets on the six and then on the seven you can spend the day in bed how about that there you go thank you for joining us for this episode of bringing home and in the words of bob marley live the life you love and love the life you live happy no housework day
