Oh, this doesn't take you back to childhood. I don't know what does. I think I'm too young for this song. That and Roger, Computer Love.

Now this is from 1985. Yeah. And this was ahead of its time because Computer Love, there was no such thing as dating websites, there was no such thing as meetingpeopleonmatch.com or any of these other sites. They were like, yeah, they were like, they were like, speaking of you.

They really weren't, didn't realize it. But on this episode of Bring It Home, it's time to get some spring cleaning done. I don't turn us off yet. We're not talking about that kind of spring cleaning.

Right. We're going to look at our tech life today. We're cleaning our tech life. And that's not a topic I think most people think.

I don't think so, but it probably needs to be done. And you know that thing we told around with us all the time, our phones. That's right. We never go anywhere without them.

Anywhere. No, including the bathroom. I mean, we don't go anywhere without our phones. And on my team, my phone, your team.

I'm totally, Andrew. Okay. So we're coming out from two different perspectives, but it really doesn't matter because they both need some attention. Okay.

So what's one thing we can get started with? Well, something you can do is just delete your call history and all those text messages. You don't have to keep them all. And I'm really bad about that.

I can get an answer and move on. Oh, but they mean something to me. It's like, I don't want to delete something you sent me. It's okay.

I'll send you more. I don't know. I have a connection to my text messages. I don't know what it is.

The call history I can get rid of. Yeah. And like, I don't even have my voicemail set up. I don't like voicemail.

Please don't leave me a voicemail. I'm not going to listen. I don't know. Just send me a text.

I don't answer text me. Exactly. No, people are not pertinent. Just delete it because it takes a room on your phone.

So when it's time to do those updates sometimes you don't have enough space to do some of the updates that they push. So what about all those apps on your phone? Yeah, if you're not using it again, trash it, because it's taking up space. I need it again.

Well, you even downloaded the game. That's true. People don't think about that. Because, you know, I have downloaded apps again and my information is still there.

Right. Like my order history is still there. Yeah. So I shouldn't be afraid to delete apps.

If you get a new phone and it comes with a bunch of apps on it. Like, delete them. I've got a bunch of games on my new phone that I'll never going to play. I got you know, we don't have to keep that stuff just because it comes on there Delete okay, and that'll free up some space.

Yeah, what about those contacts those people you know longer talk to? Yeah, you know delete they'll never know oh well take them out of your phone and then you know sometimes they need to be updated You know, we got old numbers. Do you put pictures with your phone contacts? I did a long time ago, so when I've gotten new phones those transfer it over, but I don't I was other thing in the past I guess I'd like to do that with some people not everybody has a picture But I'm really low-tech like oh I would probably be okay with a flip phone.

Oh, God. It's not me Call me a couple games like like but really and truly like You know no I want you to pop up when you call well does my mom Remember you need to call me later so I can see you but definitely you know my husband my son my mom I love to see my mom pop up and her picture comes up on my phone So yeah, and I know like the last time I upgraded my phone like all my email contacts and everything came over I don't yeah that happened to me and I'm going okay. I don't need these people with me all the time No, and some of the emails were like multiple people that I don't even email I was like a listener Mmm. Oh these people so get rid of me.

We don't need them now one thing I do on my phone I take a lot of notes. I do it while I'm driving and that's where I keep my to-do list So instead of using no boys. I use boys command But I'm thinking you know I use pencil and paper to do my to-do list every day. I do it on my phone So I need to go back and clean my notes section.

Yeah, and I don't use that but my husband does He's a good note taker because they'll be like just putting your notes in your phone like no I am a pencil paper person. I lose the paper So, you know that is a good idea that you don't be notes from two years ago I know but sometimes I want to go back and look at what I did in 2018. I think it'll be fun. Okay.

Well, okay I need to delete some notes then. Yeah, you know think about all the pictures you take now That is one of my other than you know calling texting like my that's become my camera Oh, yeah, definitely so and I had a really bad issue with that Like I'm really bad about saving my photos back and I got a new phone and lost all of what three years worth of pictures I did I would crash it here. So, you know do something with them a lot of people like to keep them in the proverbial cloud Wherever that is now I don't know much about the cloud. I'm just gonna be honest I like to say things to you know something something tangible I don't know the cloud and there's a lot of free apps that you can download and Because my husband did this there was a photo one and you just paid for them to ship your pictures And you could do like up to 80 a month.

Oh, so you just send them to them and they'll print it and then you pay the shipping So then you don't have to go somewhere and actually I have to do it. So there's options out there for people like us Okay, well, you know There are some people that are hardcore spring cleaners with their tech and they actually do a factory reset Anny just to get the phone working like it should now definitely you have to save everything you want to keep if you're gonna But there are people who do that just to get your phone working perfectly again. Yeah, yeah, you've got a whole year to clutter it up again No, I'm not that person No, no, I'm not either And you know spring is a good time to look at your upgrade options if your phone is not functioning the way that it should be Your head money for a bill every month So you may want to look into what your options are to get a more advanced phone my camera needs upgrading I see pictures from other people's phones and I'm going I need a new phone just for the camera Well, my goodness cameras down your phone just as good as not better than a handheld. No, they're better than the camera I had so so our phones we need to pay some attention, right?

Okay, what else do we need to look at? Well, you know, everybody's got an email or two or three. Yeah Email whatever, it's you know go through those case in point myself my personal y'all who account that I've had who knows how long has over From home well that's where I stand like you know if I sign up for like coupons or like good wall greens or like they're not from people Do you just like not delete them? Yeah, I just scroll through like if it looks pertinent or hey There's coupon in there usually the main ones I look for in there are like my church And I'll just crawl through and see if I see my church name or somebody from church's name or because my husband I mean, he doesn't email me a lot, but usually well Let me know like I have to email read, you know something to read because you know you're not gonna look at it It's something you want me to say you send it to my work email But I'm really bad about not deleting there because I like you like what if I need it later?

Yeah, well, yeah work email I'm really you know I don't want to leave those and I'm bad about to leave my personal email as well a lot of times even when you delete Sometimes you need to empty the trash now There are some mail boxes that do it automatically after so many days But if yours is not then you have to physically go in and empty The message is that you already deleted right? That's right. There's still taking up space in your box now one thing I did on my work email because we get put on some lists are some things at work Yeah, or not hurtin it to me. I have going in and unsubscribe.

Yeah, and I mean we need to unsubscribe like for example Christmas shopping I may buy something from a store that I'm probably never gonna buy from again But when you purchase something you're now in their list and you're getting an email from me every couple of weeks I want that to stop so every so often I will take the time to go in and unsubscribe Yeah, just to keep from that and I usually have the unsubscribe button at the very bottom You just scroll down there and hit it yep. Yeah, one thing we need to do is update your password I'm doing that because then I can't remember what it is. I'm the same one But but you're right though Just for security purposes because we do so much business transactions in our email You know, we're purchasing things and we're corresponding with a bank and with other things Your Amazon account is tied to it or PayPal. Yeah, you're right.

We do need to change those passwords So this is a good time to do that and check your signature You know especially with your work email or even your personal emails and things have changed you may want to just look and see What's your signature says when it's going out? That's right and make sure it's what you want to be That's right or your company makes and some updates about what they want in your city. I did so yeah Yours might do that too. So okay the computer.

We just listen to computer love So we know it's the things we need to do with the computer those loose documents I can't say in just random save word documents. Everything has to be in a folder for me I think in terms of folders look at my home screen on my computer Everything needs a home. It needs to be in a folder. You're right springs a good time to do that.

Yes and delete stuff It's no longer perking enter. You know updated and you need a delete old ones now Where's it that? I don't want to delete old documents because if I made a flower back in 2002 I may revamp that flyer 20 years later I'm saying to now we can move forward Yeah, I may need to clean some things It may not be good or you're like you know logos and logos have definitely changed even your bookmark sites You know the sites that I have saved some of those I don't need anymore some of them aren't even active links anymore You're right. So that's clean out some space and make sure for sure You know no matter what make sure you're like your malware your virus protection whatever you use is up to date Right, right?

That's something you need to check, you know every few months right and they pretty much do that on work computers But on your personal devices, you know You have to take more of an initiative to get it done And that kind of goes back to your phones and tablets and things to do make sure that you were you know protected mm-hmm And just ooh all the yucky stuff that happens at our desks and on our keyboards and our phones and you know We need to find the proper way to clean those things and that doesn't need to just happen in the spring That is happening a lot especially It's not but they're really pretty gross if you think about it and I am pretty adamant, you know I keep hand sanitizer I sanitize a lot, but they still need to be um, you know disinfect it It's like your phone and stuff. Yeah cold and blue season It needs to be done more frequently during that time and then you know same thing is true for your you know Everything your keyboard your mouse everything that you touch related to your technology Yeah, if you got a touch screen monitor everything you know get it clean also get your cables under control Those the cords everywhere they are so just take a couple minutes and figure out what goes to what if you need it plugged in anymore And then just figure out it's just okay. What about the bag of cords there by has that we're not even sure we don't have those devices anymore But we got the cords I mean Well, I'll take it off because we have a box that we just keep stuff like that in yeah, we're not at home Well, I don't even know what I don't know I mean there's cords that don't fit anything anymore so one more thing I want to cover because this is like a personal thing for me DVR yeah, that's the place where clutter happens and it's not clutter you can see because it's in the device Right, but we need to pay a little attention to our DVRs to keep those you get full the recording schedule It's something we need to look at are we still automatically recording shows that we don't watch anymore? Um, especially we're recording shows the new ones and the reruns that could build up your space so much Because I may show them like you know for two hours a month.

Yeah, you look down and you got 18 episodes Right, so we need to check the shows that we're recording making sure we're only recording the new episodes And it may be time to cancel some of them. We may not be watching those. You watch it delete it That's hard I'm watching again, but I love this show but I'm probably not gonna watch it again It's just gonna stay there same thing with movies, you know, oh, this is my favorite movie and you recorded then when it comes on getting next month Oh, I love this movie So yeah, we need to clean out our movies ever so often and you know try to keep that percentage low which is bad at my house We're probably like 1,000% Oh, no, I can't stand that because we get above 75. I start to get nervous Yeah, I don't like when the percentage gets too high No, we're bad about it because what if something comes on that you really really want to record you know Why your vacation or something and you don't have no space well, that's true You better think that over and I'll tell you like it's it's like all of us in my house except my daughter We all have our thing.

We like to record. Yeah, so You know, I want to delete something else somebody's watch. No, we gotta go through and get rid of stuff for sure We do and you know, there are parental settings You know your television that you need to look at ever so often It may be something like a security code that you have to have in order for children to watch certain programming You may want to update the code from side to side if you have small children because um, you know, hey They can figure stuff out or you know, it's just time to update and then this throwing a little financial stuff in here Check your prices, you know for your subscriptions to tv services and cable services and dbr Yeah, this may be a good time to do that is during spring. So That's a good idea.

I mean we got a lot to do. This is almost more exhausting than spring cleaning the house Well, as I usually tell people just pick one thing and start there No do all of this this week if you're finding your hand start with it I love yeah, you're looking at your computer go through right now and it just hit someone subscribe you'll feel good about it Well, you will you will. Yeah, I'll delete a star number of mrs per day Now you said you got how many thousand I really think it'd be better for me to have a new email Yeah, because I'm thinking I don't know how many you have to do with that in order to keep up with the rate that they're coming in But at any rate we need to spring clean our tech life I agree and I think we can get busy with that and thank you all for listening and in the words of mr Bob marlec now this was not concerned for him. No, he was pre-computer Not so much.

Yeah, I think he liked it. Well, I don't know but he would love that song But I just don't think he had to worry about as much technology as we do But we want you to live the life you love and love the life you live by
