We're in and home with Sarah and Teneel. Hey, hey, hey, we're working for the weekend. We just got over the weekend. We're ready for another weekend.
Let's go. I think we're always ready for the next weekend. Oh, I'm pretty sure we are. That is um, who is that?
Uh, lover boy. Yeah, that's a oldie but it is. Yes, girl. We did just have a weekend and we have a long weekend coming up this week.
We do have holiday Friday for us. Yes, and Easter is on Sunday. So what's going on? Before we ever get started, let me just go ahead and do a birthday shout out for April 1st.
My niece, Audrey Rose. It's her birthday. She's nobody's April Fool. But we wish for a happy birthday on April Fool's Day.
Yes. Well, it's funny you said that because we're going to talk about something else that happens on April 1st. Oh, besides April Fool's Day and Audrey's birthday? Yes.
And it's related to work. Oh, oh, oh, oh, it's working. We're going to have a good time. Okay.
Because Wednesday, April 1st, is International Fun at Workday. Woo-hoo! Now we heard this because you and I discussed it once on video. Yes.
So I think we should revisit it. We need to visit this often. Yes. Because when somebody, like when you just hear that the word work, you don't always have positive images come up.
Sometimes we do. But we love our job but there are some parts of it that are Monday. Sometimes we'll work with the weekend. Let's be honest.
Yeah, like sometimes we get caught up in that daily crime, you know, and it's just like, I got to get this done. But other days, it's great. That's right. So on April 1st, International Fun at Workday has been around.
It is celebrating 30 years this year. Oh, people have been having fun at work for 30 years? It's a year, no. 1996.
Oh. 30 years ago, this was founded by a company called Playfair. Okay. And they, which I think is perfect that they came up with this and their logo is that they're the world's leading experts on fun and play at work.
Okay. But they encouraged the idea of having a good attitude at work and they designate this one day a year to do a little extra. So do you do fun stuff at your office? Oh, yeah.
I mean, I've always loved to have fun at all the places that I've ever worked. Some places that I've worked, we had a birthday club where people paid in and we did when your birthday came, you got to give, you got to choose where to go out to eat, everything was covered. I've never worked in a place that I've never worked in. We had Christmas parties and Christmas breakfast and just, yeah, everywhere that I've worked, there was some sort of fun that was planned.
That's so good. And then we asked why Taney is fun at some places that I've worked. You were better. Yeah.
I think it's important that, you know, you spend a lot of time at work, right? All of us that are still in the workforce. We spend a lot of time. That isn't necessarily mean that every day is fun or that, you know, your coworkers become your best friends.
That's okay. But you can still be together and have a good time. Yeah. And I think that this is important because it forces us to pause, I think, and think about whether we are having fun at work.
Right. And it's good for morale, you know, to be able to go and have a good time and let your hair down a little bit. Yeah. Just a little bit.
It still works. It still works. So Wednesday, there's some things that the Play Fair Company that initiated this 30 years ago, there's some things that they suggest that you can do. And one easy way is to just throw a party on Wednesday, you know, whether that be like cate or lunchy in it or everybody go out to lunch together or bring a potluck or play with it.
We've done all these things in the past, you know, most of our offices have. So yeah, having a party work is definitely a way to move some around. It's a way to have some fun at work. And we've always looked for a reason to party.
We've had bridal showers and baby showers and birthday celebrations. We're gonna celebrate. I think it's important. Yeah.
You know, maybe your office doesn't really have a budget to cater a meal or something, but hey, you know, everybody can bring something or, you know, have a breakfast, do muffin, coffee, and just have some time where you sit down and chat, where everybody doesn't have to rush off and get, you know, their to-do is started. That kind of thing. But the whole party is one of the ones, one thing that's listed. I love this idea.
Do something together to maybe raise funds for a charity. Yeah, I think that would be a lot of fun. You know, it immediately comes to my mind. I think about October and we do a lot of race, cancer, awareness, or in February when we do a lot of heart things.
And there are a lot of opportunities and observances throughout the year that I can see offices and workplaces come together to raise money. Especially if someone in the office has dealt personally with an issue, this would be a great time to honor them. Sure would. And do something to raise money in honor of that person and whatever they've been through.
Even things like just helping people that struggle with food insecurity. You know, I have an office of food drive, you know, that we do in partnership with our volunteer organization, our office, and we bring in some community workplaces. And so this is something we can do. So we're not actually raising funds, but we are collecting items.
No, I think it's great. You know, in all of our Extension offices across the state, we have 4-H program. And a lot of those kids do that type of work as well. So the office could join in that, whether it be, you know, bringing in stuff for the local animal shelter or, you know, doing care packages for people at the nursing home.
You know, there's a lot of ways that the office staff can come together and work for a charity. Yes, yes. I like this idea too. In my office, we have done this.
We've taken a field trip. The field trip. Like get out of the office for the day and go do some team building or go maybe have some kind of competition. I remember you judged an office competition once I had like a chopped.
I did. They had an office cooking competition. They did. And that was the thing that got them out of the office.
It was not held at the office. Got them out of the office and it was team building. Yeah, yeah. So things like that are fun.
Going away even if it's to learn something or just to enjoy. Everything doesn't have to be about learning. Sometimes enjoying things together helps to build morale and bring you closer as a team. And it doesn't have to cost a lot of money.
You know, the day that my office went on a field trip, we took in some free options in a community near us and then just, you know, took your bite of lunch. But we had a great time spent most of the day outside and learned about a community, you know, in our area. Yeah. Yeah.
I think another one that you can do all together, whether it be Wednesday or another day, but go do some volunteer work together as a team. Yeah. And I can say this, our employer, University of Tennessee, they actually encourage us to do at least one volunteer day. They support that for us to go and do a volunteer day each year.
So I can see the group coordinating together and maybe doing that volunteer day together for a common purpose. Yeah. It may be something that benefits the community that you're in or it could be a regional thing. Anything from picking up trash to helping out an animal shelter to serve in a soup kitchen.
Yeah. You know, any way to get out of yourself and go and serve together is a great way to have fun at work. Right. Right.
And just anything that you can do related to what's going on in the world. Like, for example, leading up to the Super Bowl, you can do a day when everybody wears jeans and their favorite teams, or your sweatshirt or whatever. I love that. Just anything that again, lets you have a little bit of extra fun in the office.
I think it's important to, you know, we want our co-workers, we want to have a positive relationship. We want to bond as a unit to be able to make your office, your company, you know, whoever your work for would be the best that it can be. So anytime we can take a pause from a daily, you know, and just focus on relationship building, team building and letting everybody have a little fun is important. It is.
Have fun. Workday. Absolutely. So Wednesday.
And it's not a neighbor fool joke. It's not a real thing. Okay. Okay.
Just check it out. I also just want to throw a caveat. That's not the only guy you can have fun at work at. Oh, that's true.
That's true. Because that could be a little quick for people to get it together by Wednesday. So we can extend it a little bit. That's right.
And then do stuff throughout the year. Just, you know, that brings a little happiness and some fun to the office. I think that sounds like a great idea. Well, y'all, it's almost April.
That means March is a wrap. Yes. March is a wrap. Wow.
But we are thankful for our listeners each every day. And we do have the two have fun, whether you're at work or at home, wherever you listen. And in the words of Bob Marley, live the life you love. And love the life you live.
See you next time.
