i'm not a diva i'm not oh i'm sorry together you don't call beyoncee when i'm still having fun well i mean you're here so i feel like i'm with beyoncee i know welcome to this episode of bringing it home with sarah and tenille and you know it's gonna be a good day when we start with beyoncee i'm sorry it just is that's that's tenille's like that's a girl oh yeah and you know what it's perfect today because we're gonna get to a diva discussion in a moment because what's coming up this week summer celebration summer celebration lawn and garden show in jackson tennessee we're excited yes we all we look forward to this every year you know it's annually held on the second thursday of july every year yes and it's special this year because they're having a birthday celebrating 30 years of summer celebration yes and everybody's invited to come out it lasts all day and you can stay as long as you want you know it starts at eight that morning ends at four and you keep saying come we haven't told you where to come no you need to come on out to the um ut west tennessee research and education center yes 605 airways boulevard yeah and i mean you'll know it i mean you'll see all the beautiful grounds and you'll be a lot of traffic um signs out on the bypass yeah it'll be an exciting day celebrate 30 years the theme is kaleidoscope it's gonna be all about color this year we love color so that's exciting i think that's gonna be a whole lot of fun again it's thursday july 11th and we'll be talking more about that so celebrate 30 years now we haven't been there 30 years no no we haven't been there 30 years and we're part of a four-person cooking team called the ut tennessee right so every year we do our thing and we have a lot of fun we do different things every year yes and we get together and we come up with dishes that fit the theme that uh ut picks each year for the gardens now can you believe that this is year 14 that we'll be beside each other in the kitchen doing this i mean time flies and you're having fun right it does we started our journey back in 2006 do you remember what our theme was in 2006 oh basil basil basil people were chanting basil all throughout the building oh it was amazing they just came to see what the heck was going on i know it's real crowd it smelled so good everybody was excited it was fun it was fun and you know like i said it's a four-person team right we started out with you and me and amy elizer and also gwen joiner yes is retired from carol county yes amy has moved on to a better place no she didn't have a lake she didn't have a lake she's still with us but she's in a specialist role now working in hardwood amy if you're listening we do love you yes we love you we're glad you're not in a better better place you're you're in hardwood county so shout out to gwen and they are our diva emeritus no emeriti emeriti yeah i didn't take latin so i didn't mean but it's emeriti so we pay tribute to them because they helped us we're the divas 2.0 this year i know we got a new face on the team here we do so let's bring our new divas into the conversation rebecca's a rat now she was with us last year as a diva she replaced when you want her on the team when she retired hi rebecca good morning we are so glad to have you back on board thank you i'm excited i can't wait and we're going to reveal our new diva in case you hadn't heard drum roll please our new kitchen diva is joy powell hey joy how excited are you it is so exciting i can't wait we gave you crown and everything so she's already had her coronation y'all missed it she's been crowned and so she's ready to get going yeah and we're ready for her to get going i got an idea let's talk to rebecca and joy a little bit because you know they're new to the diva team so find out a little bit about them so rebecca we know you're in chester county you're the extension agent and the county director what do you do over chester yeah so i have two program areas that i work with i work with 4-h which is a youth development program for students in 4th through 12th grade we work with all kinds of activities that teach fly skills and then the other part of programming is family consumer science um do a lot with that but my favorite is always the nutrition aspect cooking uh teaching people how to plan healthy diets and things like that you know we do a lot of cooking at summer celebration what's the vibe like for you at summer celebration i love it it's always upbeat exciting um just a lot of fun kind of a crazy chaos um hey that's a good way to explain it but i've really found like that's that's just the vibe i like it works well for me oh cool i love that definition i know crazy so this year our theme is peppers is that something you're already cooking with i mean it's kind of a new territory for you as we've gotten ready um i cook a lot with peppers especially bell peppers um i think they're great uh dishes on their own but they're also kind of things you can sneak into other dishes and to get in some vegetables and stuff like that uh what is going to be new this year i've been experimenting with how to make some spicy desserts and other things so well now i know i've nicknamed you the sweet diva we all have our little nickname now i'm the practical diva because i'm gonna make recipes with things that you more than likely already have most of the ingredients for at home very practical if it has this long laundry list of ingredients and i'm not gonna make it now sarah is our easy diva yeah i'm not gonna make it well it's you it's you because her recipes are they're easy they're easy yes like sarah they're kid friendly i'm not easy well you know what your recipes are easy yes no i'm playing y'all no really and truly uh i kind of hit it from like the working mom aspect and uh you know we've got church and scouts and other activities during the night so i hit it from that area that's how i find my recipes things that you can have at your disposal easily yeah yeah i get that now now joy she won diva survivor she was the last one left on the island so that's how she got crowned tell us about you joy what county are you in what do you do for your work well i'm in wayne county and i'm 100 fcs so i work a lot with my fce groups i have five fce clubs in the county so they keep me busy and for those that don't know fce is that is family consumer education so family consumer education they are groups of ladies that get together and do all kinds of activities service projects volunteer yeah i have one group who quilts all year round and they quilt for the veterans in our community very cool and let's say they do all kinds of service projects throughout the year so what are you most looking forward to for this craziness that you've been hearing about are you what are you looking forward to well i'm just looking forward to being a new kitchen diva and experiencing summer celebration for the first time because i've actually never even attended one every year something's going on that prevents me from coming but and you're in the middle of the action this time yes i'm just excited for the crazy chaos what cares you what cares you about this the camera oh yeah facebook live television cameras are you ready for that i have to be great yes so a dish just quickly rebecca what's a dish that you'll be doing that that you're excited about this year i am doing sweet and spicy sugar cookies and they actually feature dark chocolate and cayenne pepper so you'll have to come and see what i love it a cookie with a kick is that overlooking one with a kick that's great joy what's a recipe that you got going i'm going to do a watermelon pito de gallo no tomatoes guys it's going to be watermelon okay i love that and that's one thing i love about kitchen diva is like we throw stuff at people that they may not ever try right we're going to twist on things yes so what about you what's one of your favorites that you're going to do well i'm going to do a pasta salad that uses a lot of different colored peppers we don't tend to think about peppers with our pasta salad but it's a way to get in some nutrition uh in addition to the carbs that we get in the pasta salad give us a nutrient value and it's delicious so looking forward to that cool i don't know i really like both of mine um what i like about them is how easy they are mine are going to be making heads up that you can you know if you've got to get together a picnic a family reunion a church event you can make it the day before and then as you're walking up the door grab and go right that's kind of easy that's kind of stuff we need so people listening they want to know how can they see us tell them so we told you summer celebration starts at eight and ends at four well we don't exactly follow the same uh time frame so we start at 10 a.m and we'll have a show every hour on the hour and ending at three is our last show the thing to remember though to see the divas is you have to have a ticket and they're five dollars and tickets go on sale at nine o'clock for the 10 11 and 12 o'clock show and at noon for the one two and three o'clock shows and tickets are for sale right outside the kitchen door where we'll be working out at the education center right so it's five dollars to get in summer celebration but in order to see the kitchen divas you got to pay an additional five dollars and buy your ticket ahead of time right but you're going to get a plate full of food all kinds of recipes and you're going to have a good time yes and there's a lot of other things going on this is a lawn and garden show so there's going to be talks about lots of different things this year um again the thing is like so so it's all about color there's talks about painting colorful pots uh growing rainbow vegetables floating your foliage birds you know colorful birds so anything that you're looking for and they're going to have some very special displays that honor and some talks that honor the 30 years of summer celebration just some favorite themes and people that want to see a schedule can actually go online right now to west.tennesse.edu if you look for summer celebration click on that and you can get a whole day's view of what's going to be happening exactly and so there's more than just a kitchen diva obviously going on and we're not the only food show there that day there we're not we're the only show everywhere else you go you can purchase some food you can purchase some food you got to be breakfast out there yeah gourmet your way is going to do breakfast um gourmet your way is back at lunchtime and also the 4-H all-stars they're going to be having uh grilled goodness uh that you can support it because we just 4-H and also enjoy some delicious lunch there and then if you just want some snacky foods i know that ice cream is going to be there uh frozen things yeah some food trucks and things like that and also they have all kinds of vendors in the tent that have stuff for sale related to plants or gardening decoration it's just a great day and one thing that a lot of people really like about summer celebration if you've got something in your yard you don't know how to identify you can pick it and bring it that day and there's a tent there that they can other extension agents will be there to help figure out what it is and how to treat it so it's a day for everybody you can get on a wagon and take a tour of the beautiful gardens it's family friendly you know everybody can come and have a good time that's true and if you've missed the divas in the past and you're interested in summer we've done all kinds of things we've done sweet potatoes and corn and ochre and honey and squash we didn't talk about how to mail food i mean like sending food in the mail so we have if you missed any of that you can go to that website sarah was talking about west.tennesse.edu click on summer celebration there's a link to divas when you click on divas it will show you all of our handouts from previous years so it's like you're in all of them that's right so honestly sarah what was your favorite theme that we've done oh my gosh well i know i know it weren't but no um i'll ask you that next it's hard to pick because they're all so different fun i know i really we really had a lot of fun with sweet potatoes um and we did find some very unique ways to do those i don't know that the sweet potato might be one of my tops top favorites i'll tell you what my not top favorite was we probably have the same one did it start with the oak yeah it was real slimy yeah okra was not our favorite the food was good wow yeah lots of slime that we had going on but we even had a good time with that and we didn't say but rebecca we have jokes we make jokes out of food right yes nails are in house comedians my jokes are great i mean it's worth the five dollars just to get my stand up routine i agree i agree she's our bouncer but then we felt like she would serve us better as a comedian i think i'm much better as a comedian so once again thursday july 11 we start our thing at 10 o'clock but you gotta be there at nine in line to get your tickets woo bless you sarah gotta make sure you're there to get your tickets yes and again it's at um 605 airways boulevard jackson tennessee um put that in your gps and drive on out to see us it's eight to four most of the talks will start at nine or ten um the garden sale starts at eight so just come spend the day with us i know you get to be joy she's our new diva and you know for one day out of the year the divas get to be rock stars people post for selfies with us they go live with us you know and we let it all go to our heads but then after that one day it's over and people go back to treat us badly it does not last it does not last so we will soak it up while it lasts we thank you for joining us on this edition of bringing it home with sarah and teniel we hope to see you at summer celebration this year and in the words of mr bob marley be sure to live the life you love and love the life you live until next time bye bye
