We're hanging at home with Sarah and Tenille, Sarah, some Justin Timberlake. Now he's from Tennessee, like we are, right down the road from us in Memphis, Tennessee. So part of NSYNC. How are you an NSYNC fan?
No. No. Okay, NSYNC or Blackstreet. I mean, no.
Neither are we. We'll move on. That conversation didn't go like a lot of work. What about you, though?
Yeah, I mean, you know, from what they were. What bands were. It was all about what bands were. I guess my boy band was pre this.
Yeah, I didn't get ready to say that. But the boys come in. It was probably, I don't listen to me in. They were like my group.
Yeah, yeah. But I like JT. Justin Timberlake, yeah, I'll wait. So spring is officially here.
Yay. Hey, what, like last Thursday? Yeah, the 20th. Yeah, you know, it turned March first.
It's spring to me. I'm ready. Yeah, the loud colors are in. It's just a warmer weather, which I know spring can kind of still be colder.
Yeah, oh, yeah. You want to breathe. But, you know, it's like the promise that the warm weather's coming. Yeah, I got you.
What about you? Yeah, summer. That just means summer's up the road. And, you know, flip-flop season is coming.
And just all the fun things. Lots of sunshine. It's coming. We've got to get through the rain.
In the end, the sunshine will be here. But everything's starting to bloom again. So my allergies don't love it, but my eyes don't. Right, right.
So another thing that I don't love is spring cleaning. And, you know, I don't know why. We feel in our heads, we've got to get clean because it's spring. Well, if we keep it easy, let's think about some things that we can do in 10 minutes.
Just so they can handle. Some of these came from thelittleshine.com, and so shout out to them for giving us some easy tasks. A quick question, though, before we jump into this. So the Justin Timberlake song, because I don't like your cleaning playlist.
Well, it's not mine, but it is one of the popular songs to clean to. And I was kind of reading the criteria for how they choose those songs. They have to be really upbeat. They have to be motivating.
And so, you know, he's talking about my love, but even if you're not in love, just that beat itself, you know. And if you clean to the beat, you might burn some galaxies. I always turn music on when I'm cleaning. Yeah, it makes it go quicker.
But these 10 minutes tasks, they are very quick. All right, let's knock it out. Let's do our top 15. We can do some of these, yes.
Let's knock it out. And I know the first one you do that I'm going to bring up, and that's throw in a load of laundry. Every day. Girl, you know I'm throwing some laundry.
Like, you will text me and be like, what are you doing some laundry? Oh, the laundry, laundry, yeah. Four people, and like, my husband has work clothes, so he changes twice a day, pretty much. My kids are active in sports and stuff, so it ain't like we just all wear one outfit a day.
Yeah, I understand that. So to stay ahead, I try to do at least a load a day, if not two. It's so insane. Yeah, we do quite a bit of laundry, not as much as you, but I have gotten in the habit of throwing in laundry fast, so like, I will put laundry in, you know, but I don't have much time, so yeah, that doesn't take 10 minutes, especially if you've already got separated, and you take it in there, and you're ready to go, so yeah, get laundry done.
No, I'm not staying on board with that, because it really does not take you that long to get it going and switch it up. The dirty clothes need to be cleaned, so we need to get the dirty clothes clean, so. Speaking of clothes, and this is one I've got to go home and do, because I have a whole basket of these, throwing out all your unmatched socks. Yeah.
So we keep them, right? We do. We'll do one day. I think in addition to that, like, when you're watching and you see someone holds them, just throw them away.
Go ahead, get rid of it, yeah. This is an easy task that can be done in 10 minutes or less. It sure can. One of the things that I'm guilty of is letting my email clog, and this is my personal email is a mess, I'm going to tell you, because that's where you get, you know, when you buy something, then all of a sudden you're on that company's list, you're going to get all their ads, you know, that's where I get some of my bills sent, that's where I get, so it just keeps growing.
Growing and growing, yeah. So what do you suggest that we do? Well, just 10 minutes, just get in there and delete for 10 minutes. Okay.
Go through the sent box. If it's stuff, you know you're not going to need. Because see, some computers keep your sent things, and also it keeps your trash until you're empty. Right, right.
So go through those, because they're taking up space in your box and just throw away things. You know you don't need all of the advertisements and the spam things. Just get rid of it. I may add to that, too, another time.
Go in and unsubscribe to some stuff. You try to unsubscribe it, somehow you're still on the list. And then they want to ask you four questions. Why are you unscribing?
Are you doing this too often? You're not like, yes, quit. All of the above. Yeah, but yes, do that.
Do that. Well, I'm not ready to leave this laundry conversation. I'm going to admit, that's probably the worst on this list for me. Because, I mean, have you ever had your family pulling clothes out of the clothes back?
Clean clothes back. Or even, like, I'll have them folded and hanging out, like, take them to your room, and they'll leave the pile there and just come go through the pile. Yes, I am so guilty. Your clothes are going to be wrinkled.
It's going to be hard to see what you have. You're right. We need to put it away. Just do it.
It really does not take that long. Yeah. Well, let's go in the bathroom for a little bit, because I think the bathroom takes quite a while. But an easy task that you can do in 10 minutes or less, clean the bathtub.
Now, I'm a bathtub early. I use my, you know, I got a jacuzzi tub. I'm in there doing a thing. But it's easiest to clean a bathtub to get out of it.
So as you get done with your bath, you know, there's still some, you know, moisture there still wet. Go ahead and clean it. Right. Yeah.
Yeah. It's easier. And now they, you know, this is so popular on social media. That long-handle scrubby thing that you can get where you can reach the other side of the bathtub without even hardly bending over.
Those things are so popular. Do you have one? No, but my mom does, and she swears about it. Yes, everybody does that has one.
So, you know, get tools to make it easier so that you can do it quickly. I like that idea. Yeah. So for our listeners that have young, young kids at home, this is a task that I remember dreading, um, going through the toy box and purging, but pro tip here, I would do it when the kids weren't home because they would never even know.
Definitely. But like, especially broken toys, like, hey, we're going to fix that. Probably not. Just go through it.
Spend 10 minutes and purge, purge some stuff. It feels good and your kids will really never know. Right. That's true.
That's absolutely true. You know, broken or things they've outgrown, donate them. You don't necessarily have to trash them. Make a broken trash on them, but donate them, pass them along, or get rid of them.
Yeah. Yeah. That's true. Let's go in the bathroom for a minute.
Because, you know, I think about the tub, but now we've got the toilet in there as well. And if we clean the toilet frequently, that makes it easier to do. I mean, you know, you won't get the hard water stains and all kinds of stuff. Just go ahead, clean it, you know, quick.
Remember the back of the toilet, you know, the floor around it, all these types of things. We can do that. 10 minutes you can clean the toilet. I agree.
You can do that. Knock it all out. Well, I want us to jump to the kitchen. Okay.
Because we spend a lot of time in there, right? And one thing, I don't want this to happen to your house. We can clean it. So specifically the refrigerator.
Take 10 minutes, open the doors, and throw out stuff that is old, okay? I know we have all had food get lost in the refrigerator. You know, leftovers that we think we're going to eat and get shoved to the back, and then you're like, I don't even remember what this is. So take 10 minutes, go in there, and just clean it out.
While you're in there, you may be inspired to wipe it down, you know? Yeah. I do agree about that. And one thing that I do, I do it the night before trash pickup.
Oh, that's exactly right. Just so that it won't, you know, be in the trash can and smell or be outside and, you know, attract other things. So, you know, do it the night before, especially the freezer. If you've got something in the freezer that you need to get rid of, because sometimes you get some air that needs to go, you know what it is, and it needs to go.
But, yeah, do this. 10 minutes, you can knock that out. Yeah, throw the old stuff away. And something I do, they help me determine what's old.
For my condiments and things like that, I put it on. I mean, literally, I have a Sharpie. I have a Sharpie, and I will write the date that I opened it and put it in the refrigerator. So I don't have to go under.
Well, because then, that date you open it doesn't always align with the Best Buy or the Best Buy date, so that's really smart. Yeah, I do that now, and that helps me to do it more quickly. Okay, well, we can all make 10 minutes to do that. Another one I really like is just to look around, pick three things to donate.
Declutter. Just three? Well, I've got 10 minutes, I guess. Yeah, we really need to get rid of some things.
You know, I've heard before, like, every time you bring something new in, especially if you're decorating or something, one thing needs to go out. Because if you don't, what happens? Yeah, I mean, you just become overrun. Yeah, or even, like, shoes.
When you buy a new pair of shoes, get rid of a pair, you know, that you're not wearing anymore. But it's the same for whatever the thing is. Right, yeah. But take you 10 minutes a week and walk around and see if you can purchase three things to donate.
They may still be a good working condition. It's just not your style anymore. You don't use it anymore. Or, you know, some clothes that you don't wear anymore or the kids have outgrown.
Yeah, yeah, get rid of those things and don't make somebody be using them. Exactly. So I think about your grocery list. You can kind of check your cabinets and check your, you know, pantry and decide what you're going to eat for the next week and make your grocery list.
You know, write it down. I go ahead and pull up my app because I've ordered through an app. And when we're out of something, I wait to add it. Oh, that's good.
Just add it because I may not remember when time comes. But you can do a list so quickly. Just, you know, kind of figure out what you need and do your list. This is extension month.
March is in the state of Tennessee. And we always talk about meal planning. We talk about doing the list. And so that way, when you get to the store, you know what you need.
You don't buy random things. And you also don't forget something that was important. So true. Yeah.
So we can do that in 10 minutes or less. We can. Let's make another list. We all have kind of in our heads or running to do or wish list that we would like to do around the house.
Oh, goodness. I can't keep it in my head, though. I got to put it somewhere else. Right.
Especially this time of year, people that have outdoor stuff. You know, you may want to clean out your flower bed or clean out the gutters or, you know, get a pressure washer on your driveway. I mean, there's a lot of stuff to do. So as those things come to your mind, keep a running list of that, too.
Right. So you can make plans to do that. You know, you may even have something you want to do by the end of the month or by the end of two months from now. You know, whatever it is.
But kind of make a list and plan for it and kind of get your game plan together on how you want to attack that. And, you know, that's going to help with budgeting, too, because if I've got a list of what all I need to do and I can even add kind of the amount of money I'm going to need to do those things, then, yeah, that can help with the budget planning. Well, and just remember, too, home maintenance helps with the value of your home, too. Like, if you don't clean your gutters out, you're going to end up with rot and other major water issues.
So, like, some things we just need to do to keep the value of our home up, you know. So start making that, I guess you could call it a honey-do list, whatever. You know, or if you're getting ready to start a garden, you know, cool weather stuff can go in, you know. You can't do that in 10 minutes.
No, but you make a list. Oh, yeah, I make a list of what you need to do. Like, things that you need to buy or to get ready to garden prep. So, yeah, think about not just your grocery list but, like, a household list.
Now, you mentioned gutters and things that we need to do on the outside. This might be a good time of year to think about your garage or anything about my garage or your carport, whatever you have. What can we do in 10 minutes, though? Sweep it out.
Yeah, we do need to do that because the wind blows things under, and we have to do that frequently. And, you know, we're coming out of the cold time of year, so you haven't been doing that. You know, but it's time to kind of spring clean, and I'm on the outside of your house as well, you know, which can lead you to taking 10 minutes to go around to all of your exterior doors and wiping those down because if you think about it, your hands touch that every day, you know, so we need to wipe it down. Well, and I guess your doors, like, the first thing you can leave when they come to your house.
You know, they see your doors, so, yeah, we need to wipe down the outside, but all the inside, too. Just clean it. Like, we see it every day, so we kind of get blind to it, so go home and look at that and take 10 minutes to do that. What about the baseboards?
Now, I mean, I know, but, you know, you can look at some of them and just like, ooh, it's time to do baseboards. Well, again, I'm going to talk about the thing with a long handle. So, we used to be hands and knees, you know, scrubbing. There are so many tools now that you can use.
You know, there are, you know, the ones with the handles that you can put the wet pad on the end and clean those. You can use the scrub brush rotating thing. There are a lot of things you can do to clean your baseboards. There's no reason your baseboards should clean that.
It does make a difference. It does. It's like, after you get it done, you'll be glad that you did. Yes, you definitely will.
So, I mean, you can do a room in 10 minutes. You don't get to the whole house, probably, but you can do the room in 10 minutes. Yeah, just break it down into that. So, on the, kind of that same frame of mind, I do not pay attention to this.
And then I'll look up at my light fixture or my fan, and I'm like, oh, my gosh. Oh, the dust. Yeah. They do big cleaning.
You know, so take 10 minutes. And, again, they make a lot of tools. If it's high up or you can't reach it or don't feel comfortable getting on a ladder or step stool. But we do need to take the time.
Plus, that's good for our indoor air quality. Oh, yeah. You know, the reducing the dust. Oh, I've got a couple of vents that need attention.
That needs done pretty frequently. You know, every few months. It's a big attention bag. So, do that.
Clean out your car. 10 minutes. Get you a bag. Go knock it out.
You know, if you really do that, you can keep your car clean. Because, you know, if you just take 10 minutes every weekend. Yeah. And, you know, just any trash that you've gotten, if you don't get rid of it.
Or, like, with our jobs, I feel like I haul around. There's so much stuff. It's not necessarily trash or whatever, but it is taking up space. So, I need to take the time to just empty that out.
Get it out if we're not going to use it right now. Because we're going to have to put something else in. Let's do our jobs. We know that.
So, yeah, you want to do that. Another thing that gets junky for me is my purse. Oh, very good. Throughout the week.
I mean, I have receipts. I have just anything. If I use a straw, I will put the straw paper in my purse if I'm not near a trash can. I'm just trying to drop it on the ground.
But, you do need to give your purse some attention. No, I agree. You know, I always laugh when they play those games about a woman's purse. It's like, oh, yeah, I could win this.
I never win those. It's funny. They never ask for old crumpled up receipts. But we don't need to carry around all that trash.
No, we don't. And if we've got extra stuff in our purse, that's weight, you know, that we're, you know, putting on that we don't need to be carrying around on our arms. So, just keep the extra junk out of it and just kind of carry what you need. And a lot of these details won't even take you 10 minutes.
No, no, it doesn't. But I think it's great that we are sharing these ideas with our viewers because sometimes you want to do all of these things and you're like, I don't know where to start. I love when you say viewers. They can't see us.
They're pretending like they're good. Yeah, they're good. But, you know, sometimes it can be overwhelming. So, when you break it down into smaller tasks that you can complete in 10 minutes or less, think about all that you can accomplish in, you know, a day even or a couple days.
Break it down into what you need to do and kind of get yourself back in order and ready for spring and the pretty weather and entertaining. People entertain more this time of year because it's warm and, you know, this also just makes you feel better. When your life is in order, your stuff is in order to feel better. And I'm thinking that you can get some of the family involved in doing some of these 10-minute tasks.
You know my mom's her little mantra. And I'm going, everybody will give me 30 minutes and we will have done two hours worth of housework. And it's true. So, everybody can give me 10 minutes.
We're working on 40 minutes. Yeah, yeah. So, you know, get everybody involved. You don't have to do all these tasks by yourself.
No, you shouldn't. No, you shouldn't. You've got to have people in your home. Right.
That is absolutely correct. So, spring cleaning is getting off and hopefully we've got some things that you can do in 10 minutes or less. That was our goal today. So, thank you for joining us here.
And in the words of Bob Marley, live the life you love. And love the life you live. Happy spring cleaning.
