We'll be right back. We're in a minute. Before, like, you have been waiting for Friday since last, what, December? Girl, spring is almost here.
I can feel it. I can feel it in my bones that it's almost here. So, yeah, we are around in that corner. Now, that doesn't mean we won't get any more snow.
That's right. I hope it means that. It's going to be raining, though. Yeah, it's going to be raining.
I get that. But that means we're on the way to where I want to be. That's right. I'm excited about that.
And I'm also excited about tomorrow. I can't pinch you. You don't have any green today, but I can't pinch you yet because you still have another day. Well, I always have green eyes.
You have green eyes. That's not going to count. You have to put a little green shirt or something. Yeah, tomorrow we're going to St.
Patrick's Day. We'll have all of our listeners jump on board and put a little green on them. Yeah, where's the green tomorrow? So, you have to wash them tonight, all right?
I got to lose all of a sudden without St. Patrick's Day. Now, why are we talking about laundry? Well, springtime makes you think of spring cleaning.
And, y'all, there is a topic about laundry that people are just, you know, like, do we do it or not? Oh, do we do it or not? I say not. So, no, like, you know, how often do things need to be washed?
Oh, this might be an opening. It is. So, I went to a reliable source here, the American Cleaning Institute. I've heard of them.
ACI. ACI, yes. And they've been around for over 100 years because their theme right now is 100 Years of Clean. So, they know what they're talking about.
100 years ago? They were there? Okay. That's amazing, right?
So, they are going to give us some tips on things to consider on do I need to wash this? So, we're going to talk about, you know, some very common clothing items and things or things that we use every day. No, okay. I don't want the listeners to turn this down because they're turning the volume down.
They don't want to be ashamed because they're not washing these things often though. This is for learning purposes. Exactly. So, you know, sometimes you can tell by the sniff test alone if something needs to be washed or not.
You may regret the sniff test. Other times you're like, hmm, I think this is okay still. It really all depends on, you know, like the fabric. It depends on the weather.
It depends on the wear of the garment as well. So, the American Cleaning Institute has some tips for us. So, number one, bed sheets. Oh.
Okay. They say these should be washed at the minimum at least every two weeks. Okay. Or more often if you sweat a lot at night.
So, I guess one of the keys might be to have a lot of extra sheets. So, that way if you can't get out of washing them today, you can swallow them out. But it's a pileup. You still have to wash it.
Yes, eventually. But if you don't change your bed sheets, you like the same ones, it's recommended at a minimum every two weeks. And I think that makes a lot of sense. Yes.
That's cool. Yes. Pajamas. You wear your jammies.
I wear my jammies. Yeah. Okay. So, again, the American Cleaning Institute says they need to be washed after three or four wears, again, unless you have sweated a lot.
Or if you've showered before you go on to bed, you're putting them on a clean body. Okay. I'm just going to get a little personal here. I'm not going to wear my pajamas four times.
Probably two max. Sometimes I change them every night. Again, it says if you're sweating or whatever, or if you just feel icky, it's okay, it's okay. But it's okay if you wait three to four times.
If you don't feel icky, you can wear them again. These are just recommendations. But these are clothes and items we use it. People aren't sure sometimes.
That's right. That's right. Okay. So, bath towels is kind of a big deal to me.
Okay. So, I like to use my towel probably two or three times. You know, let it dry and then use it again. Well, you're right in line.
Okay. So, their recommendation is three to five normal uses. Normal uses. Normal uses.
Okay. And they need to be hung up in between so that they can dry out really well and not get that mildew smell and things like that. And this is a good time to mention, you may want to get different colored towels for people in your house. That way, you won't get mixed up.
Like, everybody hangs the towel in a common area. You know, if there's a couple of you using this bathroom and two of you using this bathroom, maybe you can have different colored towels and that way you'll know which one's yours. There you go. That's a good idea.
Yeah. For sure. Well, I actually, I'm a little different than them. I maxed two times on the towel.
Okay. But that's just me. Well, how do you know which one's yours? Do y'all have a clothing?
We have our own hanging. But yes, you need clean socks on. Don't take a shower and put the stained socks back on. Yeah.
Don't do that. So yes, we have that. Absolutely. Okay.
So think about your t-shirts, tank tops, and ladies, when we wear a camisole under a blouse, they need to be washed after every wearing. Yeah. And here's where the sniff test can come in. Here I am sharing to you.
Am I again? Because if I wear a tank, I can smell the tank and smell my yodern. You know, if I'm not sure, if I'm wondering, if I smell my yodern, then I'm like, oh, okay, yeah, this one's been worn and I'm going to wash it. Yeah.
Yeah. But yeah, for sure, your t-shirts, your tank tops, camis, they need to be washed after every wearing. Yes. So think about your outer clothes, okay?
Like specifically here, your dress shirts, a pair of khakis, they recommend that they can be worn a few times unless it's hot outside and you've been sweating or obviously if you've gotten them dirty, spilled some food, got a stain, you know, but your khakis and like dress shirts can be worn more than one time. And I know some people actually spend money to get these things dry cleaned. Right. And so you definitely want to get as much use out of these as you can between cleanings if you're spending money to get these cleaned.
Yeah. But I can even say, you know, if you're going to launder them, your clothes will last longer if you're not just washing them needlessly. Right. So yeah, I can see this being the case.
I think when we wear clothes like that, it's not always like an everyday kind of thing. You know, I think about for my family, like church, I'll tell them like, okay, when we get home from church, they're still clean. Yeah. Hang them back up.
Change clothes. So blue jeans. You know, I love wearing jeans. The cleaning institute says they can be worn up to three times before you wash them.
And you know, again, going back to saving your clothes, if you wear black denim, I don't see you black denim on very often. But black denim, if you wash those too often, even if they're on cold or general or whatever, they're going to lose color. They will fade. Yeah, they'll fade.
I see like really dark denim. So I can see why you don't want to wash these constantly. So I see why they say that. And the fabric, like you're talking about, lasts longer as well.
Just how they're made. Right. You know, it extends the life. Obviously, if they're dirty, you wash them.
But yeah, otherwise. Leggings and tights. Tights, not so much in my house, but leggings. My daughter and I wear them a lot.
But they get to be washed after everywhere as well. My leggings are going to be stretched out of shape. You know, the legs. I mean, it just doesn't look.
People can look at you and tell you wore those. Yeah. So yeah. And all the times when we're wearing leggings, people are exercising or doing something active as well.
So yeah. What do you think about suits? I mean, you and I don't wear them, but. Well, my husband has suits for church.
And so again, I'll go back to some people dry clean these. We dry clean the suits. And again, you're going to try to, that's one of those items when you get home from church, change clothes, because we spend money to clean these things. Plus it's not comfortable.
He's not going to hang out in the suit. You don't want to wear your suit all day. And you know, a lot of women, you know, that work in a business environment, they have on suits. And I'm sure they spend money to clean them.
I have had some machine washable suits. But again, the more you wash them, your buttons are going to get loose. You're going to start to see fabric pull it. So you don't want to do it needlessly.
So the recommendation is, if it's like a wool suit, you can wear it three or four times. And any synthetic suit can be worn up to four to five times. I mean, that makes sense. Most men do not wash their suits or have them in the dry cleaner every time they wear it.
No. And you do have, typically they'll have a dress shirt next to their bodies and in the suit coat. So I guess you would switch out and clean the shirt. Because that's where you've been doing most of your sweating.
Right. As long as it passes the sniff test, go ahead and wear the suit again. Yeah. Yeah.
So bathing suits. Okay, your favorite time of the year is coming. I thought you were going to say your favorite thing to wear. I was like, y'all are not.
You know, sometimes you're going to see a lot of bathing suits. Y'all, it's actually recommended to wash those every time you wear a bathing suit. Now, how many people, I can't see hands raised out there in podcast land, but how many people go on vacation and you wash your swimsuit every time you wear it? Or you bring a full spread of swimsuit so that you've got a different one every day?
Yeah. I think it's because it's kind of connected. It's almost like underwear. It is.
I mean, it's fitting in all the places where underwear fishing. But you know, I know everybody does this. You go, when you get back in the pool, you take it off and you hang it on the rod so it can dry so that we can wear it tomorrow. I will say this too, though.
If I've been to the beach and all that sand and all that, I want to get back to the salt water. And then, you know, people go to the river. Oh, see, I ain't going to have a little water. But if it's got some dirt in it, it'll change your color of your bathing suit.
So you want to wash all that out. See, that's an experience that I've had. So, yeah, I'm thinking pool. So, yeah, if you're going to get in the ocean, then, yes, you're going to have the salt water.
And that's different. But you wash all that out, though. Honey, I still recommend you to wash it every time. I know.
I'm not arguing with the American Clean Institute by no means. But I know that there are some people out there that just hang it up and wear it. Well, just some things to note that they tell us here, too. Regardless, like, anything that is your whites, you know, or silks, they're prone to discoloration.
Like, and think about when you do sweat. If it's a white shirt, you get it around the corner. Oh, yeah. So you do need to wash those every time you wear them.
And, too, if you, obviously, if there's a garment with a stain on it, you want to take care of that. Oh, yeah, retreat the stain and then still, you know, wash it right away so that you don't have to struggle with it so much. So, you know, spring cleaning is common. Spring is on its way.
So we want to think about, you know, making our clothes last as long as possible. And we want to take care of our towels and our sheets and all that. So we want to make sure that we are cleaning them in the appropriate way. Yeah, I'm going to throw one hand at the ACI cover.
And that is your kitchen towels. You know, the towels that you use to clean your dishes and dry things off. And those need to be cleaned after every use, in my opinion. And I know when people close the kitchen at night, they have a habit of just kind of putting it over the side of the sink.
But those need to be changed out every day. Well, yeah, you've had food and other, I mean, you know, some cleaning sprays. Yeah, I just think those need to be switched out. I agree.
I think so, too. But they didn't cover that. They didn't cover anything. Well, you can add one.
I love it. I could. So, there we go. Lots to do, but spring is coming.
And we want to keep our clothes nice and fresh. Get the swimsuits out. And what do you think about when the season changes? Like, you'll be pulling out your clothes for the warmer times.
Do you go through and wash all of those again? Or do you use a sniff test? I mean, yeah, probably. I don't know that I'll wash them all again.
Well, I keep some of mine in a plastic container. And so I will smell them just to see if they smell like plastic or not. Yeah, you don't want to smell them. And so some of them, I will.
Sure. Yeah, so everybody has their own well handling. But thank you all for joining us for this episode. I know it made you want to go home and do some laundry.
I know it didn't mean. Turn that dolly song on. Yeah, turn the dolly song on. What is it?
Wash the balloons? Turn that on. It'll motivate you. In the words of Bob Marley, live the life you love.
I love the life you live. Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow and happy spring. Be the first weekend of spring coming up.
It's coming. I love it. Bye, y'all.
