With the NHL season officially at the 50% mark for the New York Rangers, they find themselves in a difficult spot for the future, with the next steps ahead very unclear. Do they part ways with Artemi Panarin, waiving the flag of defeat in doing so, and try to acquire some pieces for the future? Not likely, as that would explicitly take them out of the playoff race, and they'd be lucky to make the playoffs even with him on the roster. Do they make attempts to re-sign him, even though it hasn't exactly culminated in success for the Rangers? Or does the team look at other roster players like Lafreniere or Trocheck to possibly deal, while still keeping most of their core around?
