Lubbock’s downtown is getting a major upgrade as groundbreaking begins on the Broadway reconstruction — part of a $103 million bond package approved by voters in 2024. Stretching from Avenue Q to Avenue E, the project will transform the street with new sidewalks, benches, bike racks, and trees, all designed to boost walkability, safety, and local business traffic. While replacing old brick with smooth concrete, historic brick pavers will be preserved at intersections and crosswalks to honor Lubbock’s character. The city council greenlit the $17M contract with Ti-Zack Concrete in June, with additional funds for construction services. This is just one of seven road projects funded under the bond initiative — and it’s shaping up to be a defining moment for downtown’s future.
