Broken Bow (2151)

from Captain’s Logs Hosted by Andrew Iver

This week’s discussion is over Star Trek: Enterprise season 1 episode 1, Broken Bow We open at the very beginning. In 2151, a Klingon courier crash-lands in a Broken Bow, Oklahoma cornfield, Earth shoots first and files the paperwork later — and Starfleet ends up launching its first warp-5 starship weeks early to clean up the mess. Thara and Elias read the log that started it all, and humanity's filing system has been playing catch-up ever since. In this episode, Captain Jonathan Archer gets the NX-01 ready ahead of schedule, with T'Pol aboard as the Vulcan High Command's idea of adult supervision. A Klingon named Klaang (the archive spells it three ways — we checked), a Suliban chase, and somebody pulling strings from the future. First contact, first away mission, and the first of many arguments with the Vulcans — plus early log-keeping irregularities, an alarming amount of decon gel, and Elias has opinions about all of it. Verdicts: Elias 8 out of 10 Thara 10 out of 10. Subscribe to the show, turn on notifications, share an episode with a friend, and leave a quick rating or review — it all helps the show grow.
