Buckeyes vs Butler: History and Hype | Ohio State Buckeyes Basketball News

Ohio State’s basketball team is primed for a high-stakes preseason showdown against Butler on October 25th, part of a schedule that also includes a game against Cincinnati on October 7th — a crucial test before the regular season. With over 40 matchups since 1924 and a fascinating coaching connection — Jon Diebler (Butler’s assistant, Ohio State alum, and older brother of head coach Jake Diebler) — this game carries extra weight. Jake Diebler enters his third season rebuilding after losing top scorer Bruce Thornton to the NBA, bringing in new transfers and a strong freshman class to create a deeper, more versatile roster. With exhibition games and a trip to Puerto Rico ahead, Diebler’s got plenty of chances to fine-tune his rotation and build chemistry before the season kicks off.
