This dharma talk was delivered at Marin Sangha on May 31, 2015. I was asked to talk about the Buddhist psychology of addiction. The talk covers quite a bit of ground including childhood trauma and its physiological and psychological role in teen/adult addiction. The talk also has instructions for landing in the aliveness of physicality as it is.

Spirit Rock Meditation Center: Matthew Morey's most recent Dharma talks via dharmaseed.org Matthew Morey has been practicing vipassana meditation since 1995 and has sat residential retreats around the world-Massachusetts, England, India, Thailand, and at Spirit Rock. Matthew has been working with youth since 1990 as a school teacher in New York, Connecticut, and California and as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone. He currently serves on the Spirit Rock Teen Teacher Council and co-teaches the Middle School and Teen Meditation Series. In addition to teaching, Matthew is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a practice in San Francisco. He completed a doctoral degree in East-West Psychology at CIIS, for which his dissertation examined the healing effects of compassionate awareness in both Buddhist practices and existential psychology. Matthew finds vipassana practice enriching and admires the freshness and authenticity youth bring to their practice. He has practiced in the Chan/Advaita Vedanta manner with Adyashanti, attended many vipassana retreats, and has most recently completed four jhana retreats with Shaila. Doug completed the meditation teacher training program at Chochmat HaLev in Berkeley and has studied at CCARE, the Stanford compassion training center. He holds a doctorate in psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, where he also completed spiritual guidance training. Buddhist Cosmology Hands Buddhist Cosmology is the description of the shape and evolution of the Universe according to the  Buddhist scriptures and commentaries. The existence of world-periods (moments, kalpas), is well attested to by the Buddha.
