Anthony is the pastor of Upward Christian Fellowship of Henderson, North Carolina. Under his 22 year pastorship, the church has grown from 80 to 1000 people. More importantly than attendance to Craver is the percentage of people who engage at UCF.

The narrator, young Benigna MacAvelly, decides as a child that she intends to emulate her ancestor Niccolò Machiavelli but dedicate her machinations to doing good rather than evil.
