Building Authentic Community Requires Humility

Pride is one of the greatest barriers to authentic Christian community, and most of us are blind to it in ourselves. It turns other people into tools for our own comfort, keeps us from receiving care as much as giving it, and separates us from the grace and power of God. Scripture is clear that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. The model for humility is Jesus Himself, who emptied Himself and took the form of a servant. True community becomes possible only when people are willing to lay down their pride and serve one another. Humility is not just one virtue among many. It is the foundation everything else is built on.
