Building Dreams From Scratch - Living sustainably and off gridish with Lucretia and Khalid

from Life in Motion · host Illumine Collect

In this episode we chat with Lucretia and Khalid, a dynamic duo with a shared dream of building a sustainable homestead from the ground up, all on a budget. Lucretia's journey into the world of herbal medicine, sparked by unforeseen events, led her on a path to embracing the healing power of nature. Khalid, on the other hand, leaned into art, initially grounded in writing and poetry. A chance meeting in Washington, D.C., with an inspiring artist from the Ivory Coast reshaped his perspective on visual art, and expanded his artistic journey. Serendipity played its part when a mutual friend introduced Lucretia and Khalid. With their shared passion for the natural world, driven by Lucretia's deep love for it and Khalid's romantic notions, it was a perfect match. Soon after they decided to leave the city behind and purchase a piece of land in Virginia, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey. The land they chose was a blank canvas, but brimming with untapped potential. They began clearing the land, setting the stage for their homestead. Their resourcefulness and determination shined through as they transformed a school bus into their very own home, a living testament to their creativity and tenacity. But their vision didn't stop there. The school bus soon turned into a greenhouse, to go along with rainwater collection and an expanding homestead. Their journey and passion even caught the attention of the show 'Homestead Rescue'. With the support of their families and friends, Lucretia and Khalid are now well on their way to realizing their dream of creating a solar and rain-powered homestead. If you've ever wondered what goes into living off gridish, or want to take simple steps to reconnect with the natural world, then this one's for you!
