from Speak, Mother | Motherhood Burnout Recovery & Identity Reclamation · host Shannon Warner

Send Shannon A NoteThis is a must listen episode if you're pregnant or planning to become pregnant, even if this will be your second or third baby. This week's guest is Deanna Van Pyrz, a newborn care specialist. Deanna reminds us, "With every birth, there is a birth of a new mother as well, every time." Tune in for some amazing tips for the early days of post-partum. Here are the key takeaways: In motherhood, it’s important to roll w/ the tide versus fighting the tide. It’s definitely easier to ride the wave. You don’t know what you don’t know, and the support available in the hospital are clinicians. They’re there to make sure that everyone is stable, not to teach you/support you in feeding. Be informed before you enter the hospital. Be mindful of asking the right question to the wrong person. For example, asking your pediatrician, not an LC, about breastfeeding. That’s not in their scope, and the best they can offer you will be their opinion. Prepare a support cabinet. The President makes decisions based on his advisors. Mamas need a cabinet of their own including, but not limited to: a lactation consultant, pelvic floor therapist, pediatric dentist, sleep specialist, etc. Get recommendations on who’s the best in your area early and prepare your cabinet as early as possible. You are not obligated to defend or explain your parenting choices to anyone, at any time. With every birth, there is a birth of a new mother as well, every time. About Our Guest:Long before becoming a mother of two, Deanna was engaged in the lives of young children. She and her husband taught, coached and performed arts education programs for two decades throughout the Northeastern United States. Later, with the experiences of her own labor, delivery and postpartum recovery, she developed an even keener sense for the support and guidance that new moms need. Once she became an empty-nester, she pursued her passion for helping mothers in that tender time period by gaining professional training in newborn care; postpartum care; lactation; infant sleep, and holistic based parenting. Now, five years later, she has supported dozens of families with thousands of contact hours. She has dealt hands-on with all kinds of tricky situations: reflux; oral ties; milk protein allergies; she has seen it all. Deanna receives consistent feedback from clients who describe her as a patient and thoughtful listener as well as a calming influence in the home. Her natural intuitiveness with babies makes all the difference in their smooth passage through the fourth trimester. When Deanna is not working with young families, she can be found traveling through time between the pages of a historical novel or spending time with her husband and dogs in their newly empty nest. You can find Deanna here:on Instagramon her websiteor send her an email at [email protected] out her newest offering: Fearless Mothers: A digital group coaching membership in cohorts by due date.
