Built From the Inside

from I AM SELF-ISH · host Will Wright

Episode 86 – Built From the Inside I Am Self-ish Podcast I do not coach because I have everything figured out. I coach because I know what it feels like not to. In this episode, William Wright gets personal about the real reason he does this work and why the idea of a “perfect” coach can be so misleading. William shares how his own experiences with anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, identity, and purpose shaped the way he understands coaching. He explains that coaching is not about giving someone a formula, telling them what to do, or pretending to have all the answers. For him, coaching is about creating space. Space to think. Space to tell the truth. Space to hear yourself more clearly. Space to be challenged without being judged. William also talks about why this work is so personal. There was a time when he did not have a safe place to put his own pain, shame, and questions. That experience became part of the reason he created the I Am Self-ish Podcast and built a coaching practice centered on choice, self-trust, and permission. He is also clear about something else: He is still doing the work too. Growth does not require perfection, and support should not be reserved for people who have already hit a breaking point. You do not have to wait until things get worse before asking for help. At the heart of this episode is the meaning behind SELF-ISH. Not selfishness as disregard for others, but permission to take up space, care for yourself, and stop abandoning your own needs. The podcast, the brand, and the coaching work all came from something William needed himself. Now, he creates that space for others. You do not need a perfect person to give you permission to start doing your own work.
